Tata Motors has launched the CNG version of their premium hatchback, the Altroz. It is known as the Altroz i-CNG, and the price range starts at Rs. 7.55 Lakhs Ex-Showroom. With this launch, the Altroz became the first CNG hatchback in India to have a premium feature like a sunroof.

Design and Features of Tata Altroz CNG

At first glance, the Hatchback has no significant tweaks in terms of the design. However, the carmaker has added the i-CNG moniker on the tailgate of the car. The carmaker has installed the 2 CNG tanks under the boot floor for enhancing the boot space. Each CNG tank has 30 litres of capacity to accommodate the Compressed Natural Gas. With the twin-cylinder technology, the carmaker has managed to provide 210 litres of boot space in the Altroz CNG, which is 135 litres lesser than the regular variants.

Like the exterior, the interior of the Altroz I-CNG is similar to its regular counterpart. This is the first CNG hatchback to have premium features in its segment. Some of them are the 7-inch infotainment, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, Wireless charging, Voice Command, Sunroof, etc.

The Tata Altroz is based on the new ALFA platform providing rigidity and flexibility with immense strength. This hatchback has scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP. On the safety front, the Altroz gets 2-Airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, etc. in all of its variants.

Powertrain Options

The Tata Altroz i-CNG variants are available with a 1.2L 3-cylinder Naturally aspirated Revotron Petrol engine. This engine produces 88ps of power and 115nm of torque in petrol mode. While in CNG mode, this engine generates 74ps of power and 103nm of torque output. The i-CNG variants are only available with the option of a 5-Speed Manual Transmission. However, the Altroz CNG is the only hatch that can be started in CNG mode directly, unlike the other hatchbacks of this segment.

Pricing and the competition

The Tata Altroz i-CNG is retailed at the price point of Rs. 7.55 Lakhs Ex-Showroom. The carmaker has priced it by Rs. 80,000 cheaper than Baleno CNG and Rs. 95,000 cheaper than Glanza CNG. However, the higher variants of the Altroz CNG are priced at a premium of approx Rs. 1.25 Lakhs dearer than Baleno CNG and Glanza CNG. Below are the prices of Altroz i-CNG:-
