German luxury carmaker Audi has announced that it has commenced local production of its Q3 and Q3 Sportback in the country. Both of its crossover SUVs are now locally produced at the company’s Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra. However, the prices of these premium SUVs have not seen any changes despite being locally produced.

Until now, Audi used to import both the Q3 and Q3 Sportback models to India as completely built units (CBU), also known as direct imports. To reduce tax burdens as well as improve local operations, the carmaker has begun bringing kits to India to manufacture the Q3 SUV and Sportback domestically at the SAVWIPL plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

“Audi India begins local production of the Audi Q3 and Audi Q3 Sportback at the SAVWIPL plant in Aurangabad, India. With this, the VW Group reiterates its commitment to Make in India and continues to enhance its product offering to meet the ever-evolving needs of the discerning Indian luxury customer.” the carmaker said through an official press release.

About The Audi Q3 & Q3 Sportback

Launched back in August 2022, the second gen of the Audi Q3 is priced from Rs 44.89 lakh up to Rs 50.39 lakh. The Sportback, which was launched recently in February this year comes at Rs 51.43 lakh (ex-showroom).

Both SUVs use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged TSFI petrol engine developing 187 bhp and 320 Nm mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Audi claims that the Q3 Sportback will reach 100 kmph from a standstill in under 7.3 seconds. Power is sent to all the four wheels thanks to the brand’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system which is available as standard.
