Skoda Showcases Rapid Convertible – A Student Car Project

Skoda has found a unique way to motivate the youth for designing the project car. The automaker has selected some students from the Group Academy’s Dual Vocational Training in Mechatronics program to re-design a car. This endeavor marks the first-of-its-kind project in India, but Skoda has been carrying out similar initiatives globally for years.

The Azubi Student Car Project is now in its 9th edition, where vocational students in Mladá Boleslav have been designing their ideal car since 2014. In 2020, a similar project was conducted, featuring 26 male and 5 female students who created the Slavia Roadster.

About Skoda Student Project Car in India

This Project is a part of the Skill India initiative by Govt. of India. The mechatronics students selected the Rapid sedan and converted it into a convertible body style. This conversion of sedan to convertible attracts a lot of attention requiring utmost precision and skill. The project car bears a retractable Skoda logo on its hood where the winged arrow is upraised from the bonnet.

The design of the Project Rapid convertible features LED lights on the bonnet with an illuminated Skoda logo on the lid of the boot. The sedan is painted in contrast Royal Blue with scarlet red seats for a sporty appeal. While it also gets black and yellow accents on the character lines and brake calipers. Inside, the car gets a touchscreen infotainment system and a sporty exhaust.

SAVWPIL encourages new professionals

SAVWIPL Academy’s Dual Vocational Training in Mechatronics program is planning to add the Student Car Program to its syllabus. The academy intends to conduct one project per year and make the selection process more competitive. This program will offer a platform for students to showcase their ideas and gain practical knowledge in the mechatronics field.

The program is a full-time, 3.5-year course for 10th-grade students, modeled after a similar program in Germany. It enables school leavers to develop new technologies and hone their talents. It also allows the interns to apply their theoretical knowledge in more practical initiatives with confidence.
