On September 17, 2022, the Establishment of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance (refers to the Alliance below) was successfully held at the Xiangsihu Campus of Guangxi University of Finance and Economics. The Alliance was spearheaded by Guangxi University of Finance and Economics, and 30 colleges and universities from China and 10 ASEAN countries voluntarily joined. It is reported that this is the first international exchange and cooperation organization for statistical education initiated in Guangxi. The establishment ceremony of the Alliance provides a new platform for promoting digital interconnection and synergistically promoting the high-quality development of statistical education in universities in China and ASEAN countries. Cooperation and exchange are of great significance.
The establishment ceremony of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance was held through an “online + offline” approach. Mr. Yousef Ismail, former statistics advisor of UNESCO Institute for Statistics, Aucky Pratama, Executive Director of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants, Mr. Benito Rio Avianto, head of Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and more than 60 representatives from the member institutions attended the establishment ceremony of the Alliance.
Mr. Yousef Ismail praised the Alliance as being unique and groundbreaking, based on a broad regional statistical education foundation. He pointed out that most of the existing statistics alliances in the world focus on official statistics, and the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance is the first alliance to focus on statistical education.
Zhao Yanyun, Vice Director of National MAS Education Steering Commitee，and professor of Renmin University of China, said that the establishment of the China-ASEAN Institute of Statistics and the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance have provided the colleges and universities in China and ASEAN countries with a new platform for international exchanges and cooperation, and also created new opportunities for the construction of statistics and personnel training.
2.Discuss new development and plan a new vision：
After the launching ceremony of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance, the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance Working Conference, the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Seminar, and the China-ASEAN Big Data Statistics Innovation Competition preparatory meetings were held successively. Experts from ASEAN universities and colleges share their inspiration and ideas for developing statistics education：

Dr. Hlaing Hlaing Moe from (Myanmar) Yangon University of Economics delivered an academic report “The Essentials of Statistics in Our Society”;
Dr. Zhao Yanyun from (China) Renmin University of China delivered an academic report “Statistics Education in Big Data Era”;
Dr. Do Thanh Thu from (Vietnam) Thuyloi University delivered the report “Statistics in Education And Research”.
“The establishment of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance has built a platform for statistical scientific research and expert database to promote bilateral and multilateral statistical cooperation.”by Dr. Goi Bok Min, Vice President of University Tunku Abdul Rahman , said that he hoped that the Alliance will become a collection of talent training, scientific research, a first-class statistical organization that integrates services and international exchanges and cooperation to better serve the economic and social development of China-ASEAN countries.
At the establishment ceremony of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance, the participants unanimously decided that the permanent secretariat of the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance will be established in Guangxi University of Finance and Economics, and the China-ASEAN Big Data Statistics Innovation Competition will be held regularly. A series of activities such as China-ASEAN Statistics lectures sharing, will also be held together. By integrating domestic and foreign resources, we will jointly build an open and shared scientific research innovation platform and expert think tank, and focus on cultivating high-quality compound statistical talents with an international perspective and serving China-ASEAN regional cooperation and development.
In the next step, the China-ASEAN Statistics Education Alliance will carry out a series of substantive work in the formulation of statistical international talent education, the international certification of statistics majors, the construction of statistics disciplines, technological innovation and social services. At the same time, encourage Alliance members to establish long-term partnerships to improve the quality and reputation of education, training, scientific research and social services of each Alliance member.
3.Exchange to promote cooperation and coordinated development：
In order to build the Alliance to be an important engine of exchanges and cooperation in the field of statistics for serving China-ASEAN economic and social development, Guangxi University of Finance and Economics has accelerated the pace of foreign cooperation and exchanges. At present, Guangxi University of Finance and Economics has signed cooperation and exchange framework agreements with more than 10 ASEAN universities and colleges including the Rizal Technological University in the Philippines, and the cooperation with universities in Thailand and Malaysia for cooperating postgraduate education is under accelerating.
With the advantages of the Alliance platform, colleges and universities that join the Alliance can discuss and carry out joint teacher training, international curriculum system construction, international academic exchanges and cooperation, as well as exchange visits for teachers and students, and further promote the high-quality development of cooperative education.
China and ASEAN insist on promoting mutual benefit and win-win results through openness and cooperation, and promote the sustained and rapid development of bilateral relations on the road of good-neighborliness and friendship.
