Corona virus- change in the notion of   “Beauty Essentials”

The pandemic has changed a lot of things in life. From getting ready for work to working in pajamas, dining out to dining in, beauty face mask to medical face mask. Many things in our life and around us have been altered drastically. With this understanding that things must be altered in some way as precautions, Skin care and beauty ideas have changed too. Skin routine is now more focused on hygiene and treatment. The beauty market has seen a dip in make-up products because the mass has realized the importance of keeping the face clean.

Individuals have become more concerned about the skin problems they are facing or they were facing. Not saying they did not pay any attention before but this time they actually had time on their hand to think and work on it. Instead of makeup they have channeled their energy on treating and pampering their skin for making it better from inside out. Our whole idea of essentials for skin has drastically changed. The essentials no longer consist of bb cream, foundation or lipsticks; no disregards to the cosmetic world but Essentials are now reserved for sanitizers, soaps, and medical face masks.

Arundhati Roy, a novelist explains

“Historically, pandemic have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew.”

The idea of owning different palettes of eye shadows and lipstick feels less attractive than getting hands on a good moisturizer or treatment face serums . Honestly speaking, we all have stocked make up as if they were life savers but they are just temporarily beautifying face products and definitely not “essentials”. We have started to use make up only when required, maybe for 3 to 4 hrs a day or just once or twice a week; depending on the frequency of online meeting or how many times we go out.

Beauty essentials to Health essentials

We do miss going to the saloons and pampering ourselves but the market has seen considerable shift from beauty parlors and saloons. They have seen a 30% decline in their customers and foresee more of it.

There is no way one can argue with the risk of corona virus and it is necessary to concentrate on health rather than only beauty. Staying at home with skin that is able to breathe can bring a different glow. How? Easy …Stay hydrated, moisturize your skin, use the time to create a habit that helps your body stay fit and above all eat healthy.
