I should have guarded this more closely…

I recently started thinking about all the ways I spend my time in a day.

I have things to write, things to read, things to watch.

Lots of trainings that I want to do.

Stacks of books.

Add to that the fact that I have a Family and a part-time gig as a worship leader, and a day fills up really fast.

Recently I was asked to do some work at the church above and beyond my normal time commitment.

It’s not that I didn’t want to do it necessarily, but more that I had several other things to do.

Revenue generating things…

Things important to my family.

So I had to say no.

Yesterday, I didn’t even send an email.

Between church, running errands and a copywriting job I was doing, I ran out of time before I crashed!

I’m prone to say or think things like, “I don’t have enough time.”

I realized that I need to guard my time far more carefully.

But there’s a fine line to be walked between closing the doors on opportunities and saying yes to everything.

It’s not good to just isolate yourself all the time.

But, if you do everything that everyone asks you, you are allowing them to set your agenda for you.

Of course, the main issue at hand when it comes to time, is Priority.

You have enough time to do the things you want to do.

You have enough time to do the things you need to do.

And if it seems like you don’t, then you find the time.

Because it’s a priority.

So if you find yourself saying things like, “I don’t have time for THAT,” then that’s probably an indication that it is not high on your priority list.

Maybe that’s enough justification for skipping it.

Understand what your priorities are.

Then guard your time.

Because once it’s gone, you can’t get it back.

Talk soon,

Mattie
