Self-discipline post lockdown

As the country has started withdrawal of Lockdown in a phased manner, the question that is bugging our minds is how to take care of ourselves. It’s not that the Covid19 virus has boarded a spaceship on May 31stand left for the celestial world. The fact also remains that it is going to be part of our lives for the next few months till the vaccine gets commercialized. The authorities have done their bit. It’s time for us to take the matter into our own hands. We cannot stay locked at home forever. We need to go out and face the outside world. At the same time, we need to start practicing a few things, which can keep us and others safe.

Though working from home is still an option, many of us have resumed office by now. It is better to use private vehicles to commute to work instead of using public vehicles, where social distancing may not be possible. Do wear mask and gloves while going out. Sanitize your hands frequently. You can also wash your hands with soap and water at your workplace. Avoid touching your mouth or nose as much as possible. Ensure that you do not cough or sneeze in the open. Try to carry food from home, so that you need not worry about contamination through packaging etc. Maintain social distance at work as much as possible. Do not go to work if you are not feeling well. Go and get yourself checked by a doctor instead.

This withdrawal phase of lockdown may see a surge in numbers of infected patients, as people will be coming out more. The only way to keep yourself and the people around you safe is by exercising self-discipline. Before engaging in any activity, ask yourself whether it is absolutely essential. Go ahead if it is. But, if it is not an absolute emergency, avoid socializing or meeting people. Birthday parties, weddings, etc. can wait for a few months. It is better to politely decline such an invitation than to attend the event and putting yourself at risk.

Let us accept the fact that we need to get used to the #newnormal way of life slowly. There is no point in being paranoid about the infection. At the same time, it would be dangerous to act the daredevil. We all need to strike a balance and stay disciplined to keep ourselves safe and healthy. Are you ready for that? We know we are.
