Make Your Home Eco Friendly

Going green is perhaps a much-needed requirement today. Forget climate change, we are amidst a climate crisis now. Scientists are predicting a disastrous future with the entire world pumping billions of tons of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere on a regular basis. It’s time we all start to adopt small changes in our daily lives to reduce our carbon footprints. Collective action can definitely have a great impact on the environment that is striving for breathing a bit easy.

Believe us, adopting a few habits is all that you need to do to convert your home to an ecofriendly one. Let us find out what are those…

  1. Start cooking meals in a pressure cooker or a kitchen gadget that takes less cooking time. This means less consumption of energy, less fuel burnt, and less carbon dioxide emission.
  2. Use LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs. LEDs use 75% less energy. So, not only you reduce your carbon footprint, but you also save a lot of money in your energy bill.
  3. Say no to plastic to the extent possible. Buy reusable plasticware, if you need to go for plastic or recycled ones. This would take care of the pollution it causes.
  4. Think twice before throwing away your old clothes or old stuff. Ask yourself whether those can be of some other use.
  5. Save water. Get all the leaky faucets mended. Take bucket baths instead of showers. Ensure that the tap is turned off when you are washing your face, brushing your teeth, washing vessels, or shaving.
  6. Dry your clothes in a drying line instead of making the dryer spin twice.
  7. If you have a patch of garden or space in the balcony, think of growing vegetables of your own. This helps in producing more oxygen.
  8. Make your own compost from wet wastes. You can use this for gardening and refrain from using harmful chemicals.
  9. Turn off the lights when you are leaving a room. Unplug the gadgets when you are not using them.
  10. Bring down the time you spend on electronic gadgets. Spend that time reading a book or having fun with your family instead. This would not only be reducing energy consumption but would be beneficial for your physical and mental health too.
  11. Think of upgrading your toilet to a water-saving one. Toilets, on an average, account for 30% of a home’s water usage. Installing eco-friendly ones would reduce your water consumption and water bill.
  12. Buy local produce to the extent possible. A large percentage of greenhouse gas emissions happen from the production and transportation of goods. Sourcing food locally would reduce that.
  13. Ensure that the ducts of your air conditioners are all properly insulated. This would result in less energy consumption.
  14. Make your own cleaning products from ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, etc. This will keep you from experiencing adverse effects of the chemicals the cleaning agents are made of.
  15. Put a real thought on how much you need and how much you buy. Zero waste should be the strategy to adopt.

All set for bringing in these small changes? Hope you are. Let us all work towards a world that would be a better place to live in.
