1. Wanting it to be free
Spend money to get a domain and hosting account for your blog. Building both your brand and backlink profile are critical from the start. You also need full control to modify your site as your blog evolves.
2. Being a perfectionist
Publish your article when it is somewhere between good and great. A perfect blog post does not exist so chasing that unicorn will just waste your time.
3. Only talking about your company, products and services
Your end goal might be to make money, but you first need to earn the trust of your potential customers. Give them as much free value as you can and become the authority in their eyes. They will naturally pick you when they are ready to buy.
4. Not responding to blog comments
Respond to all your blog comments thoroughly. Your readers will know you care about them and it builds both trust and loyalty. You, in turn, will better understand their questions and needs so you can adapt your products and content accordingly.
5. Not promoting your blog content
Write it and they will come? Not if you are new and unknown. When starting out spend at least four times more of your time promoting your content than writing it.
6. Your writing is too stiff
Write like you talk. People enjoy reading blogs with personality. Find your own unique style and be yourself.
7. Keeping all your content for yourself
Write some of your best content for other people. There is no better way to build authority and getting exposed to new audiences than doing guest posts for other popular blogs.
8. Not sticking to schedule
Decide how frequently you will publish content and stick to it. Write content in advance so you have at least 2 articles in the queue ready to publish.
