Interview is an important part of hiring process. Though it is very difficult to judge a person in just one meeting. It is a real test not only for candidate but Interviewer too. Hiring right candidate is very crucial for employers too. I have given many interviews and observed that there different judging techniques that employer use. Which has always made me wonder have they judged me right?
But then to proceed this is the process and we have to prove ourselves to the employer. There are times when I have taken the interviews and then there were times when I have appeared for interviews. I have met the interviewer who have been very supportive while some who were very rude to me.
There are many incidents when I failed to understand my rejections. Once I applied in a resort for guest relations and was rejected by the Resort Manager. He rejected after reviewing my resume. No telephonic interview, no personal interview and I was rejected. After one year I got a call from same company offering me job for some other location. And it was the same organization where I was promoted as Manager in my first appraisals.
Though I don't disagree to interviews but still believe that the process could be improved. However, that's the process and you have to stand out in that one interview and prove yourself. While I believe rejection in an interview does not define your capabilities but failure can help you learn and move on.
Here are some tips to help you before an Interview. Below points are more about your mental strength then being technical.
1) Focus :
Be focused. Remember a silly mistake and you could be rejected. While waiting for turn, be calm and patient and do not think too. Keep your mind calm but don't lose your focus. Over-thinking can distract you. Forget all the problems that you may have. Do not think about any previous interviews and what happened there. It is a new day with new interviewer. All the preparations have been done now it's time to deliver. So give it your best shot. Be focused and remain calm.2) Know Yourself :
You can lie to world but not to yourself. You know your strength and weaknesses. Use it to your advantage. Even you can use your weaknesses to your advantage. Never go defensive in an interview process. I had once done that mistake in one of the interviews and was rejected on the spot. Be bold about yourself. No one is perfect.3) Research :
Never attend an interview without a research. Read about the company. Read the job postings and understand the requirement. If it is possible try to find out about the interviewer. If you have a friend working in the company ask about company's core value or even you can google to find some information about interviewer.
