Liverpool - We Love You

Liverpool is one of the most exciting cities to have your hen do in – the shopping is world class, the club scene is second-to-none and complemented by the achingly trendy bars, the array of hip restaurants means even the most discerning diner will be satisfied, as well as a world class cultural offering with the finest collection of museums and galleries outside of the capital. Then of course there’s the city’s other major attraction, its people! Scousers are famously warm and funny, and will welcome you with pride. It is no surprise, in fact, that Liverpool has been voted the UK’s Friendliest City two years in a row by readers of uber stylish travel bible Condé Nast Traveller. So whether your hen do consists of a fab 4 or 14 ladies there will be something to suit everyone in this truly amazing city on your Liverpool Hen weekend.

Crowned European Capital of Culture in 2008 it’s not difficult to see why; Liverpool is bursting with culture and heritage; for those of you appreciating Monet from Matisse there is the Liverpool Tate, along with Walker Art Gallery the national gallery of the North. Then there’s street artist and dahhling of the art world Banksy’s biggest bit of street art in the UK, on the edge of the city’s China Town. Stroll around Albert Dock to drink in some of the history then take a trip across the Mersey on one of the river’s famous Mersey Ferries to see the awe inspiring view of Liverpool Waterfront, one of the most famous waterfronts in the world – who needs Venice eh! Look out for the iconic Royal Liver Building, and its two much-loved, mythical Liver Birds that watch over Liverpool.  Liverpool  also has one of the most impressive collections of museums in the country.

Liverpool is an image-conscious city, and its inhabitants like to look good ‘Scouse Brow’ and all! They wear the very latest labels, and always dress to impress. In fact, the city is fast becoming the European shopping capital. Liverpudlian’ s shop almost as passionately as they support footy, and, fittingly, Liverpool has one of the UK’s very best and smartest retail developments right in the heart of the city, Liverpool ONE. This is home to more than 160 famous high street names and ultra-hip fashion brands no wonder the WAG’s love it so much!, Liverpool also has the exclusive Metquarter off Whitechapel, a designer shopping centre that houses rather select names such as the fabulously British outfitters, Jack Wills and renowned beauty stores like MAC and Jo Malone. Cavern Walks off Mathew Street is home to Vivienne Westwood and celebrity favourite Cricket. Liverpool also specialises in numerous quirky shops. Bold Street is lined with independent boutiques and bohemian cafés.  When you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped, why not dine al fresco in one of the many restaurants overlooking the Docks on your Liverpool Hen Weekend

Liverpudlian’ s enjoy a drink even Beatle George Harrison said’ Liverpool is full of the kind of people who go out on a Monday and couldn’t care less about Tuesday morning’ our kind of town we say! Their sense of fun and love of a great night out guarantee that the city’s bars are buzzing and its nightlife is legendary – so much in fact that the users of TripAdvisor voted Liverpool as Britain’s Best Nightlife Destination, little wonder that hordes of people migrate there every weekend then!  You will find a huge variety of bars from cool cocktail lounges to hearty real ale pubs and plethora of clubs to satisfy every taste. Also on the plus side Liverpool is not as expensive as its Southern city counterparts meaning that unless you’re demanding bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal on tap then you won’t be presented with any jaw dropping bar bills!

Liverpool the very name of the city is of course synonymous with legendary Beatles arguably the greatest band the world has ever seen. It is this very connection with the Fab Four that Liverpool can also proudly adorn a second crown of ‘Capital of Pop’ - Liverpool holds the Guinness Book of Records title for the very fact that more artists with a Liverpool origin have had a number one hit than from any other location – X Factor’s Chris Malone could even hit the number 1 spot (shudder!!!) if the shows continues in its current baffling form. Why not become ‘day trippers’ (sorry had to get a Beatles song in there!!) and go to the Beatles Story at the historic Albert Dock, a brilliantly atmospheric and enlightening journey  through Beatles lives. You should also pop into the Cavern Club, probably one of the most famous clubs in the world. It’s a must see for music lovers and has hosted some the most iconic bands from the 60’s era including The Rolling Stones, Queen and Elton John, so it’s a bit like the Godfather of clubs! If you have time it might be worth hopping aboard the Yellow Duckmarine Tour which takes you on a unique journey along the city’s historic waterfront.
