Diary of a Party Expert – Bubble Football

After weeks of excited chatter in the office, (mainly from the boys!) Wednesday had finally arrived and the Bubble Football team trip was here.
We’re a mixed team at the UKGirlThing office of girls and guys, so competition was always going to be fierce for the bubble football.
“I cannot wait to see you go flying across that pitch, this is going to be epically funny”
“Are we doing girls versus boys?”
“Noooo the boys will get vicious!”
After much deliberation the teams were finally decided, GAME ON!
We all piled excitedly into various cars to head to the sports hall, all geared up in various guises of gym wear “I had to raid the fella’s wardrobe!” to look as intimidatingly sporty as possible.
Go Pros were attached to our web guy Matt and business development whizz Jo to get all the action first hand, whilst Ben our video guru was all set up to film the event.

Old School Sorts day

The evening started with an old school sports day event, everyone split into their teams, red versus blue, first up was Dodgeball- “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball”! from the movie…Dodgeball!

Dodgeballs were flying all over the shop as everyone tried to duck and dive their way from attack! Everyone managed to escape with no injuries I am happy to report!

Next up was binocular football, now if like me you have no idea at all what this involves; think rallying your way around cone obstacles with a ball, whilst wearing glasses that completely distort your perspective.  From prancing through the cones like a ballerina trying to be as dainty as possible (girls!) to full throttle running and knocking all the cones over in the process (boys!) this event certainly gave everyone the giggles!

Bubble Football

Finally, the main event was upon us, it was Bubble Football time!!

What is bubble football?

To try and put this into some kind of context bubble football is like having a kick about with the lads 5- a- side style, whilst in a small inflatable zorb (except no one can fake injury on the pitch). The suits were being pumped full of air as everyone got more and more giddy raring to go! We were strapped into the bubble around the shoulders and had two handles to hold onto and just our legs poking out of the bottom.
The whistle was blown by the referee and we were off! The actual football part of the game was quickly forgotten as the aim to take possession of the ball was side-tracked by the hilarity of bouncing off one another with gymnastic moves that even Louis Smith would be proud of. The first impacts came quickly as our over excited party planner Katie, charged straight for Jo! No one can actually remember the final score of the game, we were too busy bouncing around and trying to get back up from our over turned tortoise positions!

Other bubble football games

We also took part in other bubble football games. The childhood favourite Bulldog was first up where Jo, the nominated Bulldog tried to catch the others as they charged from one end of the pitch to the other trying not to get caught by the Bulldog (harder than it looks I can assure you!)
Next, there was King of the Ring- where everyone in the circle tried to bounce the chosen team member out of the circle until there was only one man left standing in the ring.
Finally there was the Sumo game, two opponents were chosen to bounce each other out of the ring, before the next pair were up for the challenge!
The whole 2 hour event was belly achingly funny, seeing everyone bounce their way around a pitch and then trying in vain to get back up afterwards all in the name of football. This is something everyone should definitely experience. Just be prepared to ache in places you never knew existed the next day!
