So you’re all prepped for Christmas now – the cake is being ‘fed’ every other day, your cards are in the post and your present list is all ticked off. Then someone says to you ‘what you doing for New Year?’ oh damn, you forgot about that one. It’s the same every year; all that pressure to have a great time – presumably in a nightclub, drinking overpriced drinks and feeling like sweaty sardine. How about this year try something a little different and spend your New Year with your man, and only your man. They say those who you spend New Year with are those you are to be close to for the rest of the year – so what a good place to start. We’ve put together a shortlist of romantic New Year’s Eve ideas for couples; there’s bound to be one idea that suits you both.
No No Techno
It’s going to be 2016... and technology will continue to advance and sneak its way into every part of our lives. So it’s safe to say a break from it won’t hurt anyone – in fact it might be quite nice. OK so at first the thought of not seeing everyone’s New Year Instagram posts might send you into a panic. But how about you post a ‘no no techno’ post and turn that phone off for the evening. You have the whole of tomorrow to catch up on social media. And by technology we mean no television, no radio, no internet, no phones… you name it. We will allow the Christmas tree lights on as they will set the atmosphere - but from that just cozy up together and talk, reminisce, make plans or… you know that too.
If the previous idea sounds too horrific then turn that television on – crack out your favourite DVD’s and enjoy a movie marathon. Perhaps a whole collection like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or quite appropriately Star Wars. If box sets are more your thing you’re sure to fit in an entire series. So prepare yourselves with comfy PJ’s and the biggest session of Netflix and chill ever!
There’s no ‘Bored’ in Board Games
As long as you’re not tired of board games from the Christmas period, or perhaps you just can’t get enough! We suggest an old school competitive night in, with all your childhood favourites. We’re talking Scrabble and Monopoly stylie. Careful though, these sort of challenges can put your relationship to the test as well as your skills!
Fireworks & Fizz
A good fireworks show is available in most locations so we’re there’s an option near you – however big or small. Take along a bottle of bubbly to celebrate bringing in the New Year – don’t forget to pop that cork right on cue! Alternatively why not find a spot high up, where you can view your towns fireworks from afar, soaking up amazing views with your bestest – and of course a bottle of prosecco!
Eating out for most of us isn’t such a rare occasion – hell sometimes we eat out two or three times a week, especially at this time of year. But how about really pushing the boat out to see in 2016. Take your time to find the perfect restaurant with the best reviews and top notch food and wine. When you think how much a night out in the city would cost, it’s worth spending that on the best bites and drinks around for a really memorable evening. Why not get all dressed up, black tie standard – New Year like a VIP.
