A teenage cellist will play the royal wedding
When Kensington Palace announced Sheku Kanneh-Mason as one of the musicians playing at next month’s Royal Wedding, those in the know weren’t all that surprised – this teenage cellist has been making quite a name for himself the last few years, and seems just as normal for royal company as Welsh gold wedding rings and generous gifting.
I’m so excited and honoured to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. I was bowled over when Ms Markle called me to ask if I would play during the ceremony, and of course I immediately said yes!!! What a privilege. I can’t wait! https://t.co/TU0lyKloCD

Classical cellist (let’s remember, teenage cellist!) Sheku Kanneh-Mason won BBC Young Musician 2016, and went on to release his debut album, ‘Inspiration’, earlier this year.
According to the BBC, that album reached number one in the classical chart and 18 in the main chart, making him the youngest ever cellist to feature in the countdown. He came onto the radar of the royals last June though, when Prince Harry saw Sheku play at an event in London in support of the work of Antiguan charity the Halo Foundation.

However, Kanneh-Mason had no expectation of what would happen next. “I’m so excited and honoured to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. I was bowled over when Ms. Markle called me to ask if I would play during the ceremony, and of course I immediately said yes! What a privilege to be able to play the cello at such a wonderful event. I can’t wait!”
What has already been a career blown up way beyond his nineteen years is sure to explode after the worldwide attention he’s sure to get at the royal wedding – but he’ll be extra busy being he’s still in school. He’s still attending the Royal Academy of Music full-time!
As for who else is performing at the royal wedding, that is yet to be announced but rumors are rampant it may even include Sir Elton John… stay tuned.
