Glamorous Handmade Brazos Hall Wedding

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

It’s pretty silly, but when Ben and I were being introduced as husband and wife during the reception, we came in from the wrong way {down an elevator that opened in the front of the room no less} and had to sneak back to the back of the room just to walk back up to the head table. We were laughing the whole time and it’s little moments like those that have really stood out to me since that day. It could have been something to stress over, but instead it felt like a little joke we were in on together.

What did you DIY for your wedding?

It was important to me to have friends and family involved, so although we had a lot of help from vendors and our planner, we did do a lot ourselves! For a seating chart, I hand-wrote names on guitar picks that Ben drilled and hung on ornament hangers, so that we could give a nod to his background in music. Ben’s aunt made the display for the guitar picks out of vintage frames we found and chicken wire! I also made seating placards for the Wedding party out of geodes I got on Amazon. My bridesmaids helped me insert envelope liners and tie ribbons around the invitations a few months before the big day. Ben’s mom and his aunt put together over 200 gift boxes with sour balls in them, because they’re a favorite treat of ours from Bucee’s in Texas. My sister embroidered MOG/FOG/MOB/FOB pocket squares and handkerchiefs for my parents and in-laws. Also, my friend from college who had recently started practicing calligraphy did our signage at the wedding, which was really beautiful. Finally, my aunt made a “Just Married” sign to hang on the back of the pedicab we took for our exit.

Did you have a something old, new borrowed, blue?

I thought about this before the big day, but ended up with nothing old! I did get a beautiful bracelet from Ben as a day-of present that has a blue stone, so that was my something blue. It’s also his birthstone, so that made it even more special! I will say that I helped him pick it out {by sending him a direct link and clearly letting him know it was what I’d like for my wedding day present}.

Any advice for brides currently in the planning process?

I know it’s so cliche, but the whole wedding is a blur! Get a videographer or have a friend record the ceremony, speeches and dances so you can reflect back on those moments after the wedding. We had a friend of a friend do the videography and it was great to relive the wedding after getting back from our honeymoon. Ben and I also did a really good job of staying by each other’s side the whole night, so while it felt like a blur, my most vivid memories are dancing and laughing with him the whole night while surrounded by all our favorite people. Hang onto your new spouse and don’t let go! -Molly, the Bride
