How to Perfect Your Wedding Day Tan

One of the most important parts of your beauty routine for the big day? A good ol’-fashioned fake tan. What, you weren’t seriously thinking about lying in the sun and risking looking like a lobster right before your walk down the aisle, right?

You have two options: heading to a salon and having a professional Spray you with a tanner, or DIY-ing your tan from a tube or spray. While a spray tan would cost more, it’s the best option if you’re looking for something fast and fool-proof. A DIY tanner is a great option for handier brides, plus it’s more cost-effective.

Here’s what to keep in mind prior to getting your tan on for your Wedding day!

Get a friend to help

Applying self-tanner might seem like a deeply personal activity, but trust us: there’s nothing more awkward than splotchy hand prints on your back from where you couldn’t quite reach your shoulder blades. Get a friend to reach all those hard-to-reach spots. The results will be way more professional.

Don’t get your tan day-of

The most Perfect tans need a little bit of time to settle in. Get it done a couple of days before and be sure to shower before! A slightly faded tan looks most natural.

Start early

Want a super fool-proof tan? Get a kick start on your self-tanning routine at least a couple weeks early! If you’re scared of going too dark too quick, opt for a lotion that promises a gradual tan or a tanning oil that you can mix in with your daily moisturizer. It’ll be easier to fix any splotches if you’re working on your tan gradually as opposed to if you start the night before!

Whether you’re heading to the salon or your own bathroom for your self-tanning journey, be sure to apply moisturizer on the parts of you that you don’t want to get too dark (think elbows and knees).

Stay away from the gym

You might be tempted to get an early run in on the morning of your big day, but your best bet would be to refrain. Sweat will make your tanner streak and there’s no easy fix for that. Instead, get your run or yoga session out of the way before you apply or spray.

Airbrush if you can

While a more expensive method than self-tanning or spray tanning, airbrushing will help define any muscles and make you look extra-toned. The only potential downside, beside the cost? It’s not for the faint-hearted: your technician will get very up close and personal with your body. If that’s something that makes you uncomfortable, this method might not be for you!
