Jewels need Servicing too
Just like your car or AC needs regular servicing, your jewelry does it too. For sure you can resist seeing a gold necklace going dull in which your parents had shell thousands of rupees. Getting it serviced from the professional is recommended as they not only check the jewelry but get it polished to regain the shine as well. They charge minimal, Rs.10-15 a gram. I am sure it is not too much, right?
This calls for being little extra organized. When you aren’t wearing a particular jewelry, store it in a separate soft pouch or a box. This helps to avoid the jewelry to be entangled or probably leading to breaking or getting dull. A little extra effort will save your stoned jewelry from getting damaged.
Maintain Inventory for many reasons
If you want to achieve something, you got to put in efforts. Remember the times you made faces during your childhood when you dad kept the cash memos of whatever he bought handy and safe. Well, he did right is what now you will feel. You should keep the bills handy because it not only tells how much you bought that piece for but also it is helpful during tax repayment or probably when we claim for insurance or exchange of gold.

Insuring your Jewellery
This is always recommended to keep your gold jewelry safe and sound. Getting it insured isn’t a bad idea. One can get it insured under damage or theft case. Typically, only 10% of the total amount is covered in jewelry so say the household items are valued for INR 5 lakhs, only INR 50,000 is the cover for jewelry. Some insurance companies do give a higher coverage for higher premiums.
Clean Jewelry regularly
The way you need bath daily, your jewelry at least need that wash in 3-4 months. If you wear some jewelry regularly, say some rings and earrings, they are bound to look dull after sometime. Hence, simple washing them in some mild shampoo with the help of soft bristly brush is a good way to get it cleaned from within. Be gentle else you might damage the stone or the design.
Avoid DIY repair
If you are the one believes you can easily repair your solitaire earrings or ring at home, don’t even try to be that smart. Only a specialized professional should handle the damaged part of your jewelry. Spending INR100 on an item costing INR 50,000 is worth it and not foolishness. So don’t become the master in every line and please stop fidgeting with the item damaged or broken but go straight to the professional to get it set.

Storing Jewelry in a Bank Locker
With the crime rate increased to a height like never before, the Bank lockers are becoming full and booked to keep the valuables and jewelry. It costs barely between INR 700-3000 per year to let you keep the jewelry in the locker with some deposit to book the locker. It is recommended to book lockers in government banks else private ones charge is pretty high as compared. Keep jewelry safe with a bank safe/locker.
Avoid exposure to chemicals
Chlorine is one chemical, which is really not good for your gold jewelry. Generally it is recommended to enter the pool or beach after removing all the jewelry. Constant contact of such chemicals can corrode the polish of the jewelry hence; taking care can lead your jewelry to shine brightly always. There are perfumes whose direct contact to jewelry also makes their color dull.
Hope these tips will help you to take care of your hard earned and made valuables safely.
