Who was St Valentine?
It is to be believed that St. Valentine was a priest and native of Rome around third century. King Claudius ruled at that time and according to him the soldiers of his army and kingdom were presumably better in giving out performance while they were single rather than they were married. The King assumed that it would be a noble idea if all of his army men would not be dating or married or in a relation, as there would no longer be any reason for hindrance. It was St Valentine who rebelled against this and he secretly married the coupled to longed to be together forever. When the king was enlightened with the doings of the saint, he immediately ordered the saint to be killed.
Furthermore it is also added that, while our saint was in prison, his jailor Asterius had a blind daughter and pursued St Valentine to cure his daughter as he considered the former had certain powers. The saint did heal the daughter to some extent though.
Since, Valentine was already rigid regarding the ban on marriages, this angered King Claudius and finally he ordered Valentine to be killed. On the other hand, the daughter of Asteruis was deeply saddened to hear the dreadful news. And, according studies and researches, the saint before his execution wrote a message to her and signed it from your Valentinea. This is pretty much the story is.
The celebration of Valentine’s day has been carried out since ages with candies, printed cards, flowers, chocolates, jewellery and much more when it comes to token of love. This is the day where a person professes his love to the one and by all means tries to prove his eternal love to his/her loved one. All around the world on this fine day, the parks, movie theatres, lounges; and eateries are filled up with lovers and come out as a lover’s paradise.
