The seven vow or the saath phere in Indian Wedding that you take during the wedding are not merely formalities or a part of your wedding ritual. They are the promises that you make to your better half for the journey of the beautiful lifetime that you are about to embark upon, together! And surely they mean lot more than what we think. Saath Pheras in Indian Wedding is that ritual when the bride and the groom circumambulate the holy fire and make seven promises to each other which they are bound to keep for lifetimes to come. This is the most beautiful process of the wedding which not just announces them a married couple but also best friends for life!

In the first phere, the couple worships to god for good and healthy food. They wish to be always together and work hard to get food every day for one another.

In the second phere,  the couple wishes from god for a healthy life where they live in mental, spiritual and physical harmony all safe and sound!

The third phera, the couple seeks god almighty’s blessing for wisdom and wealth. Wisdom so that they can work hard and earn and wealth to live a comfortable and a generous life.

The sixth phera, the couple prays for a peaceful, healthy and a long life for each other. Also the bride promises to be with the groom for all the good and the bad to come!

The seventh and the final phera, couple prays to god for companionship, togetherness, loyalty and understanding between themselves. They ask God to make them friends and give the maturity to carry out the friendship for life time. The husband says to his new wife that now they have become friends after the Saat Phere and they will not break their friendship in life.

This journey of being married is beautiful, more than the destination. With all the blessings these promises seem all the more beautiful and pure but only when you know what they mean.
