It’s creeping up isn’t it – that pesky Christmas day! We joke. We’re first to belt out a bit of Mariah, get on the bucks fizz and have chocolate for breakfast. But now we’re getting older we have been give these pesky things called responsibilities! Christmas dinner is on you this year, or perhaps it’s a Christmas Dinner Party with friends. But either way, you’ve left it until the last minute… and you’re in need of some speedy ideas. Lucky you got us isn’t it!
Martha Stewart you are not – and being creative is not your forte. But in dinner Party world – especially at Christmas it is important to really impress by creating a wow factor. These simple solutions are sure to excite your festive guests.
Fold your napkins like a Christmas tree! The link takes you to a super handy tutorial including step by step instructions and a handy video. The guys here use green napkins, but we think it would make quite an impact even with white ones – just imagine it snowed. You origami overlord!
Another gorgeous addition to your dinner party table could be a snowflake table runner. If you’ve made paper snowflakes before you will be fine with this one – don’t try telling us you haven’t or can’t either! So straightforward, but looks amazing especially on a contrasting colour tablecloth.
Now your tables set – you’ll need to get your guests a welcome drink and get the party started. This should only be Prosecco (champagne went out years ago). This can be handed out on its own, or mixed with various simple ingredients to create delightful cocktails.
Not long after drinks have touched lips, bellies will be rumbling so you’ll need something to keep those hunger monsters at bay. Classically, salmon is the way to go so these smoked salmon blini canapes are perfect!
Now for some top notch entertainment. A fantastically amusing dinner party game is ‘Discretion’. Place a phrase discretely at each guests place at the table, the guests then have to get the phrase you have chosen for them into casual conversation. The idea is to make the phrase as random or funny as possible. Makes for hilarious results, especially if you’ve got guests that don’t necessarily know each other well.
And to finish off nicely you’ll need something sweet and tasty! Salted caramel popcorn pots are so quick and easy to put together just remember to prepare them the day before they have enough time to chill.
You’ll be thanking us when praise and showers of thanks are rolling in!
