Christmas Shopping

Any city wouldn’t be complete without a Christmas Market. Edinburgh’s European Christmas Market runs from the 19^th November right through until the 7^th January. Expect traditional gifts, arts and crafts alongside street feast food and hot toddies! So get yourself over to East Princes Street Gardens, tick some presents off the gift list and of course treat yourself!

The Art of Advent

This wonderful concept comes from the minds of Festival of Architecture and Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland. 24 Doors of Advent see’s open days of those doors not usually open to the public. That’s 24 chances to have a right good nosy around some of Edinburgh’s most symbolic and famous buildings. A real life advent calendar!

Lighten Up

  Edinburgh’s Christmas lights switch on is on November 20^th, celebrated with their annual Light Night. Entertainment happens all day from 1pm on George Street. The occasion also marks the start of Edinburgh’s Street of Light  which runs up until Christmas Eve. 60,000 lights cast a stunning brightness over the west end of George Street – flashing and dancing to accompanying music. Experience Christmas lights like no other – although free, a ticket must be purchased in advance for this event.

It’s Show Time

The festive season always calls for a theatre show – so why not swap ‘he’s behind you!’ to a one man show this winter? Of Fringe Festival fame, Matthew Bulgo will steal both the limelight and your hearts in this witty and warming play ‘Last Christmas’ addressing the undeniable reality of Christmas for some. Running from the 13^th to the 21^st December at the Traverse Theatre, Cambridge Street.
