Why I'm not leaving Tumblr (at least, not yet)

I don’t know about you, but I have to disagree with what they claim that Tumblr has changed. Tumblr have had more than enough upgrades which some of us loved and some didn’t, but these upgrades are just to make the platform better than it was before.

The issue about the changes we are noticing is that people here are becoming more and more uncomfy to talk with. They think they’re just having a “real talk” but unfortunately, they’re simply bullying each other. Some think they’re just “blogging” their feelings and thought and that it is their right, but sadly, they don’t think twice if their words may affect other people. “Ah basta ako sinasabi ko lang ang gusto kong sabihin, kung masasaktan ka wala akong pakialam.” Then when they experience being bullied also, they be like “ang sakit mo magsalita nagbago ka na blah blah.”

I started blogging with Tumblr. It was 2009, my first year second sem in college. I liked it because I learned you can customize almost everything on your page. Yep, one thing I am proud of is that Tumblr taught me to code.

I began reblogging and sometimes write my feelings. And then I realized I was more into writing than saying “oo nga relate ako dito. *clicks reblog*”. Tumblr, like now, was full of kids who blog not their own words or photos, but others’ posts. Couldn’t blame them, though. Not all are writers, not everyone want to share their most personal stories. Tumblr is a micro blogging platform, anyway, so yep I thought it was okay.

I spent more than five years tryig to maintain my blog before deactivating it. Why? I got tired of the petty arguments between those people I knew. I lost my inspirations. And everytime I read my own writings, I felt disappointed and discontented. I became totally disconnected with my Tumblr world. So I set up a new blog with Wordpress.

It went very well - nice layouts, great themes, people who actually read your posts no matter how long they are and comments on each as well. I stayed there for almost a year. I actually don’t know why I literally deleted it and ended up coming back here.

Maybe it’s because of the ambience. No matter how much we complain about the changes we see, Tumblr is still our home. That it really connects our hearts to our blogs. Well, that is the most important thing, anyway - being confident, comfortable, and honest about your choices.

Or maybe I think Tumblr is just too personal, I mean you can write anything here even without being too careful of your grammar or contents (excuse me, nazis). Or maybe Wordpress is just too professional and is the best platform for those who take blogging seriously like a job.

How about you? Why Tumblr?
