How to Apply Foundation 3 Ways

I’m constantly back and forth between wearing Foundation and BB creams, simply because the way foundation sits on my skin and looks, isn’t pretty. Why? Because I was never applying it in an effective way that suits my skin type. You can easily apply foundation with your fingers and this will work just as well as a makeup brush, but for me it doesn’t. But that’s okay, because I’ve found other ways to benefit my skin. Having said that, I’m going to briefly explain three ways of how to apply foundation.

Use your fingers.
Yes, I know, I just mentioned this doesn’t work for me BUT it’s a method that works for others and potentially you. If it does, great, because you’ve already saved yourself a couple quid from not needing to buy any makeup tools to help you do the job. Simply pop a few drops on the cheeks, chin, nose and forehead and get blending!

Beauty Blender & Sponges.
Pretty much every makeup enthusiast is aware of these little beauties by now and there’s so many un-branded ones available for the like of £1 that work just as good as the ‘real deal’. The best way to use these is by dampening them by squeezing under running water and then using a dabbing motion all over your face. I find dampening them beforehand soaks up any excess product to avoid applying too much, but also helps to create a dewy finish. Perfect for dry and dull-looking skin. The dabbing motion will also help to give a fuller coverage, but if you wish for a more sheer coverage, you can easily swipe for a different outcome.

Makeup brush.
Now, I didn’t mention using a foundation brush specifically because other brushes work just as well, if not better. The Expert Face Brush by Real Techniques is a personal favourite, but the way I find I will get the best results is by ‘properly’ applying my primer. Now, the way I apply my primer is to suit my skin concerns for easier foundation application. It does not mean this is how you should apply primer, or apply it at all. I use an actually foundation brush to apply my primer to t-zone only, as this is where I suffer with large pores. Then I use the Expert Face Brush to apply my foundation. This method really minimises the appearance of my pores, even when using different types of primers and foundation.
