Coffee Table Books are Definitely a Statement Piece

When decorating your first apartment, you may decide to place a Book on top of your coffee table as a statement piece and a point of conversation when your guests come over. It is much more than just a book: it is a shout-out to the world (well, to your world) regarding who you are, your interests, and what truly fascinates you about society.

What type of book should you choose? A witty memoir? A comedy of sorts? A classic like Jane Austen or Shakespeare? Or maybe that table book on Marilyn Monroe or Star Wars that you picked up in the bargain section at Barnes and Noble? No matter which book you select to leave out as a piece of you, be sure to keep in mind the conversation you are trying to create.

  • A Witty Memoir:

Yes Please by Amy Poehler, Bossypants by Tina Fey, or Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling are three good examples of witty memoirs that would definitely spark a conversation. Each of these women placed their heart (and social anxiety despite their celebrity status) into the pages of these books and thanks to this dedication, their words speak to many millennials with a booming voice of recognition.

  • A Comedy of Sorts or Flash Art:

If you peruse the bargain shelves long enough, you are bound to find a ridiculous title or two that consists of wild chickens or bad tattoos…as ridiculous as these books may seem, they would definitely meet the goal of a statement piece on your coffee table. So head over to your local bookstore and look for covers with silly gnomes or The Great American Cereal Book: How Breakfast Got Its Crunch.

  • A Classic like Jane Austen or Shakespeare:

As discussed, the Coffee Table Book is not just a book; it’s a piece designed to indicate the level of sophistication and maturity of the owner. Sure, one of the above mentioned books would be a boost in the right direction if you are looking for a relaxed environment, but maybe if your study group or college classmates are coming over, you should consider kicking out Yes Please and The Great American Cereal Book for Sense and Sensibility and a beautifully bound collection of Shakespeare.

There are other options for a coffee table book like one of the trendy Adult Coloring Books (with a nearby display of vibrant colored pencils, of course) or even a journal with a fancy pen. Be creative when selecting your simple statement piece.
