What to wear in Boston in summer

I lived in NYC for 13 years, and while I often miss having a proper summer, I don’t always miss the humidity that comes with it. That said, it felt good to be back on the East Coast for my friends’ wedding in Boston a few weekends ago. I hadn’t been to Boston in seven years, and it had been many more since I’d been there in summer. Aside from a few isolated rainstorms (including a particularly memorable one during the outdoor ceremony), we lucked out with the weather, and more importantly, I had a fantastic time catching up with some of my oldest, closest friends. Here’s what I wore to the wedding and to the welcome party.

The welcome party
So, real talk: It had been a minute since I’d been to an East Coast wedding, and I had forgotten how dressy they get. When I saw what my other friends were planning to wear to the rehearsal dinner and after-party, I decided a new dress was in order. Thankfully I saw this one while window-shopping on Newbury Street—I had popped into COS to look for earrings to go with my dress and I just couldn’t resist the bright pink color of this one. It’s technically a T-shirt dress, but the fabric is nubby and more interesting, so it felt dressier. I paired it with my trusty A.P.C. sac Demi-lune (yep, it’s back) and favorite Topshop sandals from last year—both of which I was planning on wearing with the less-dressy dress I originally intended to wear. I’m planning to take it on m vacation in a few weeks, so stay tuned to see how else I wear it.

The wedding
Real talk part two: It had been a long time since I bought a new dress for a wedding, so I ordered five different dresses online. This was the last one that arrived, and thankfully it was the best. Also, know thyself: It’s by Isabel Marant, one of my favorite designers; it was on sale but still my most expensive option. All of the previous dresses were from lower-priced stores and made of cheap material, like rayon or polyester, and all of them looked like absolute crap on me. This one was still not totally perfect—next time, I’ll add a single strap to my convertible strapless bra, so my boobs have more of a lift, plus it’s a weeee bit short—but I will totally wear it again. Just remember to size up, because Isabel Marant runs small; I’m in a size 40, which, as you can see, fit like a glove. Because the dress was a little busy, I paired it with a simple gold clutch and my go-to wedding shoes, an ancient pair of Manolo Blahnik mules. Apologies for not having detailed shots, as we kind of shot these on the fly during the cocktail hour. (Aren’t these gardens gorgeous, BTW?) Also, I was a couple drinks in when we took these photos, so enjoy my cheesy—and a rare appearance by Sean!
