Photo by Maria Ionova on Unsplash The American Heart Association recommends eating two cups of fruit a day, and a diet high in fruit has been tied to lower risks of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. But when you’re swamped with work or crave carbs over a boring old apple, it can be challenging to make a healthy choice and meet that goal. That’s why it’s crucial to find enjoyable and easy ways to incorporate more fruit into your diet. Read on for some of my favorite ways to enjoy fruit! Frozen Bananas It’s almost too easy to turn a bland banana into a delicious dessert. Something about freezing bananas brings out their sweetness, and the texture becomes creamy and unique. Wait for your bananas to hit peak ripeness, not green, not brown, but perfectly yellow. Then cut off both sides’ tips, unpeel, and place each banana on an 8”x8” piece of tin foil. Roll the bananas up and toss them in the freezer. Four hours should be enough to get them frozen solid, but you can keep them in there for weeks. Instead of that ice cream cone, grab a banana and enjoy!  Banana Pancakes Photo by Luke Pennystan on Unsplash This recipe is another example of the magic of bananas. All you need are two ingredients to make yourself a plate full of pancakes that are gluten-free, high in potassium and fiber, and have no added sugar or dairy!  Mash one banana in a bowl and add two eggs. If you want to get fancy, you can throw some extras in, too. Cinnamon, nutmeg, walnuts, or chocolate chips all make great additions. Whisk the mixture until it is frothy and uniform. Heat a non-stick frying pan or skillet, then pour ⅛ cup of your banana mixture into the pan, and repeat. Use a thin spatula to flip your pancakes when they have browned a bit on the corners. Serve in a stack! Smoothies  Photo by Denis Tuksar on Unsplash Do you even need an excuse to enjoy a delicious fruit-filled smoothie on a hot day? While they may seem decadent, smoothies can be as healthy or unhealthy as you make them. Opt for full-fruit smoothies or fruit and vegetable smoothies, and skip the dairy or sherbet. It’s easy to get a whole serving of superfoods like strawberries and blueberries when you can sip them through a straw!  Thick smoothies, as opposed to juices, preserve the healthy fiber from the fruit. Whenever I’m on the run and need a refreshing treat with zero-guilt, I look for healthy smoothies near me.  Fruity Ice One of my favorite ways to sneak fruit and berries into my diet is using them as ice! The bonus to this method is that you jazz up your water and drink more of it in the process! A scoop from a bag of frozen pineapple chunks or cherries is perfect for chilling and flavoring your water. Then, as they melt, you can chew them up and eat them!  A half-cup of frozen fruit in a large cup of water gets you ¼ of your daily recommended servings. Try all sorts of different frozen fruits as ice—my favorite is a big scoopful of mixed blackberries and raspberries. Protip: frozen fruit can also replace your ice in cocktails!
