This post is now in the guidelines of the FTC Creating an amazing Nursery is not only one of the best things you can do for your Baby but one of the best things you can do for yourself. When you create a great nursery, you have somewhere you and your baby can both nap, read books, and enjoy one another’s company. The room they grow up in can greatly influence them, so use the tips and tricks below to create the ultimate nursery in your home. Take a look: Avoid Super Bright Colors And Patterns  Some nurseries do work well with bright colors and patterns – the only thing is, they can be more of a hindrance when you’re looking to relax or get your baby to sleep. Your baby can’t really make out these bright colors until they get a little bit older, but they can actually be quite stimulating for you.  This is why it’s best to either go for neutral colors like grey and white, or even lighter, pastel and sorbet shades in lilac, blue, yellow, pink, green, etc. The lighter the better really, as it’ll be a far calmer place for you and your baby to bond and relax.  2. Go For A Neutral Theme So You Can Change Things Up With Accessories When it comes to your theme, try to keep it as neutral as possible so all you have to do is change things up with accessories. For example, pick your color scheme and then select your accessories based on the sort of theme you’re going for. Painting a mural on the wall can be really cool, but it can be sad when it’s time for a change and is far harder than just swapping out a few accessories. You can take a look at some nursery ideas for boys to see what you could do with your room.  3. Make Sure You Can Make It Look Dark Any Time Of Day You absolutely need to be able to make your nursery dark at any time of day. If a little light shines through your curtains or blinds, it does matter. Your baby is not stupid, and they will know it’s not night time. They really need to be convinced that it’s night time or they are unlikely to sleep. Investing in black out blinds or some really high quality curtains is a good idea – just make sure there’s nothing your baby can get tangled up in once they are a little bit older.  4. Turn Any Lamp You Like Into A Night Light Did you know that you can turn just about any lamp you like into a night light? You don’t need to buy a special night light, you can simply swap the bulb out for a night light bulb and voila!  5. Decorate Using Gifts From Those You Love  A nice way to decorate your baby’s nursery is to use gifts from the people you love. If one of your friends has gifted a nice wall decoration to your baby, then put it up. You will probably have a huge number of gifts to choose from, but looking around while you nurse your baby will remind you that you are both loved very much. They’ll love hearing about who the decorations are from when they get a little older, too!  6. Don’t Underestimate The Importance Of A Comfortable Nursing Chair  Your nursing chair is one of the most important things in the entire nursery. You’re going to be sitting in it a lot, so you need to make sure that you and your baby are going to be as comfortable as can be. A rocking chair is a really nice choice, as it’s easier to get your baby to sleep and it’ll help to relax you too. While the chair is crucial, it isn’t just about the chair. You should also make sure you can reach what you need to without waking your baby. Having a little table closeby will mean you can store your books and anything else you might want to hand. An ottoman will mean you can put your feet up, while also having extra storage for items, too.  Make Sure You Can Store Everything You Need Near The Changing Table You should be able to store everything you need near the changing table so you don’t have to turn your back for a second. Turning your back can mean disastrous consequences, the least of which will be poop on the wall. It can be a really good idea to create a diaper station so you can grab everything you need really easily without having to go through multiple drawers and bags.  7. Do Lots Of Research On Your Crib Before you buy your baby a crib, make sure you do lots of research to ensure it’s reliable and safe. It should be the right size, have great reviews, and you shouldn’t fill it with toys right away. It can be tempting to surround your baby with cozy stuffed animals, but they can actually be a hazard when your baby is small.  8. Keep It Positive With Artwork And Quotes You can make sure you keep the space positive by using artwork and quotes that you like. You could even create a feature wall to keep the room looking interesting – and if you can make it so it’s opposite your nursing chair, that’s even better! It’ll not only mean your baby can grow up around positives like this, but that you are reminded of positives when you’re tired and feeling at your wit’s end.  9. Consider Washable Wallpaper Washable wallpaper can be a huge help when your baby has had a particularly bad poop explosion, or has decided to pee on you while you change them. They can project these things surprisingly far, so it’s nice when you can wipe down your wallpaper without worrying about smells or stains.  10. Don’t Ignore The Ceiling The ceiling is something your baby is going to be looking at a lot, so don’t waste an opportunity to make it really comforting. You could paint clouds, or even the night sky. Many people forget all about the ceiling, but it can be a great place to get creative.  11. Design A Nursery That Can Grow Alongside Your Baby Do your best to design a nursery that can grow alongside your baby. Eventually you’ll get rid of the crib and have to buy a bed. Think of the other things you’ll need to swap out, too. Make it easy for yourself, and ensure you don’t have to panic too much when your baby grows.  12. Fully Commit To Your Theme Whatever theme you have chosen, make sure you commit to it. This can make the room really exciting and magical for a small child (once they get a little older), and you’ll enjoy being in there too. There are so many themes you could go for: Fairy Tales Dinosaurs Pirates Under the sea  The Jungle  The night sky  Use your imagination. Remember, your baby doesn’t have preferences yet. Fairy tales can be for boys and pirates can be for girls. Try not to adhere too much to gender roles that could be damaging for your child in the end – forcing a little girl to like princesses when she really likes dinosaurs could make her feel bad about her authentic self.  13. Include A Growth Chart You’ll be shocked at how quickly your little one grows, so include a growth chart. This will allow you to monitor their growth at different stages, and you’ll be glad you did this when they are fully grown. They’ll love seeing how they have grown, too! 14. Maximize Storage Do your best to maximize storage in this room. You can buy a deep box and store it under the crib, for example, and you can purchase furniture that doubles up as storage space. You can also make sure you invest in things like shelving, a decent dressing table, etc. This should allow you to keep floor space while making sure you can keep everything you need in the nursery.  15. Baby Proof Everything Right Away Don’t wait to baby proof the room. You’ll be so busy taking care of your baby that by the time they are big enough to crawl around, you may realize you forgot all about it. You don’t want them sticking their fingers in plug sockets, banging their heads on sharp corners, or getting tangled up in wires and cords. Make it as safe for them as possible and you won’t need to think about this again. You’ll be able to rest easy knowing they are safe!  Creating the ultimate nursery takes time, but with the above tips and tricks you should be able to create a truly magical space that you love. Your child will eventually fall in love with the room too, and they’ll all remember how amazing the room they grew up in was. Do you have any advice for those creating a nursery?
