Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir Batin |
Raya? Nothing much. My Raya this year is about eating good food and wear beautiful clothes. That's it! I know this is not the real definition of Raya. Raya should be celebrated with happiness. This festival is supposed to be used as a medium for establishing and strengthening relationships among families. This is the right time to get to know your long lost relatives, this is the right time to seek forgiveness and to hang out with your beloved families. But as I turns adult, my raya celebration becoming dulls. Even though I still visiting my relatives house, but I felt something is missing. Perhaps our bonding time were so insincere and awkward? Perhaps television, gadgets and WiFi have replaced the intimacy of our past? Our increasing age also cause our awkwardness. Who should be blame? No one but us.
I miss my childhood days when Raya is Raya. The good old days when we happily scramble for bed post in front of television. Playing firecrackers, and counting duit raya that we manged to get from our village tour since morning to sunset. I miss those days when my maktok nagged at us, I miss my friendly cousins and missing all those loud voices and cries that makes my maktok's house more happening. This is " Raya" that I miss a lot. I pray for my late grandmothers and grandfathers. May they be among the believers.

Many things has changed. Our age makes us more behave, more awkward. Technologies makes us slightly apart. Our status makes us more busy with our own life. But after all, this is a cycle of life. Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir dan Batin. May this Raya can brings us closer . This year is the first raya I don't celebrated with my dear FFL. Not because we are no longer friends, but because of time and commitments . Many are married. Holiday is also short this year. Tomorrow has to go back for work already. I will miss you home!
p/s: maybe I should get married to taste a new definition oh Raya? (wink) lols
