5 Things I've learned about heating and cooling after buying a house

I bought my House 4 years ago now, and I must say that there is plenty I have learned about homeownership in that time.

As with any major transition in life, things you never thought about before homeownership become things you think about often. These things can range from maintaining the garden, paying down a mortgage, and buying new appliances.

Something I never thought I would be thinking about as often as I do, is the heating and cooling system in my home. You never understand how important an appliance in your home is until it stops working.

Chris and I had the misfortune of having our Hvac system go out for a few days one summer, and it was unbearable. After that ordeal, I developed a newfound appreciation for this appliance that hides in my laundry room.

Today, I am sharing a few things I’ve learned along the way about heating and cooling that will save you money, give you peace of mind, and of course, keep you cool.

Your Heating and Cooling System is Easily One of the Most Important Appliances in Your Home

Let’s just get this fact out of the way before we really dive in…

This is one of the most important appliances in your house, period. We had our microwave go out once and it was pretty annoying when it came time to heat up food until we got it fixed.

Life would be harder without a dishwasher, sure; However, if your heating and cooling system goes out, it is difficult to do anything in your house when it is sweltering hot or freezing cold. That is why it is not only important to have a quality system in your home but to take good care of it.

I’ve been doing a little research to get a new HVAC System soon and have found that Lennox® is at the forefront when it comes to HVAC appliances. Their systems are of great quality, integrate with other smart home devices and are dependable!

Good Air Quality = Better Allergy Maintenance

I suffer from terrible allergies. To make things worse, I have two cats in my home. I had no idea how much my lack of sneezing depended on my HVAC system until I changed the air filter for the first time. It was covered in cat fur, dust, and many other allergens floating around in the air.

I knew my HVAC system was keeping me cool, but it was also doing its part to reduce the allergens in my home. What I like about the Lennox system is that it takes allergen protection a step further. The iComfort® ultra smart thermostats come with Allergen Defender which brings Lennox® innovation to cleaner air by monitoring the air quality and pollen levels in your zip code.

When high levels of pollutants or allergens are reported, the iComfort® S30 ultra smart thermostat automatically increases fan speed to create more clean air per hour in your home. When I saw that, I was blown away. I barely pay attention to the pollen count in my area, and there is a thermostat that does this? This is revolutionary!

Different Times Call for Different Temperatures

When I was growing up the Temperature stayed the same, ALWAYS. Dad was the only one who could alter the temperature. No one else was allowed to touch it! I have found that there are many benefits to adjusting the temperature.

I typically sleep better when it is colder, so the temperature is set to be colder in the evenings.  When we know we are going to have more people over for a game night, we pump the cool air before it starts to get too hot with more people in the house. I have found that it can be so much more comfortable in the home when you adjust for the times of the day.

Adjusting Your Thermostat While You’re Away Pays Off

It was not until we got a smart thermostat that I realized how impactful it really is. We’ve saved so much on our energy bill by automatically adjusting our home temperature to not be as cool when we’re at work and traveling. It makes a huge difference.

If you want to save on your energy bill, switching to an ultra-smart thermostat is reason enough to do it. Lennox® has iComfort® S30, the ultra-smart thermostat that is a little more intuitive. Its Smart Away feature connects to the GPS on your phone, so it knows when you are out of the house and returns the system to normal when you come home.

Accessing Your Thermostat Anywhere is a Game Changer

Lastly, I mentioned how I like to sleep when it’s cold in the house right? Well, sometimes, depending on the temperature outside, it can get a little too cold. I love being able to prompt Alexa or adjust my thermostat without getting out of bed.

I adjust it to get a little warmer and ease my way out of bed in the morning as it warms up. It is amazing how accessible this really is. There you have it! All the perks I’ve realized from having an innovative HVAC system in my home. If you want to learn more about Lennox, I highly recommend you find a dealer near you.  Learn more
