The saying goes that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but ask just about any experienced dog owner and they’ll tell you the complete opposite. There is no age at which it isn’t worth learning something new. Whether you want to enhance your skills in a certain area, further your career, have a complete lifestyle rehaul or just pick up a hobby, there’s nothing that you can’t do if you put your mind to it and commit to it fully. Here’s just a taster of what you could be missing out on…
Picking up an instrument is arguably easier when you are taught it from an early age, but this doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to do when you’re older – you just will have wished that you would have started it earlier, especially if you begin to enjoy it. If you have always fancied giving a guitar a strum, find a tutor near you and start as soon as you can. It can be a great way to release stress.
Education doesn’t have to stop once you finish school or college. There are some professions which require constant exams, and those who are employed in such jobs don’t ever stop the revision and learning. Look for classes in a subject that you enjoy or want to pursue at a place of Education like Raritan Valley Community College. Ensure that it’s something that you definitely want to do; if you lose drive with what you’re doing, you’ll only end up growing despondent and not doing as well as you had originally hoped.
CPR, Plumbing, Building – all skills that you can pick up at any point in life to help you out. There are so many tutorials online for anything that you want to learn nowadays that you’ll be hard pressed not to find out the basics of what you want to do. In some cases you can pick it up entirely just from watching one video. Have a scout around for something that you’d like to learn more about and if it doesn’t suit you, simply move on to something else. We have the option to do this now more so than ever.
With sites such as Rosetta Stone and Duolingo popping up, offering you the chance to learn many languages for free, there is no real reason for you to say no. While you may think that it takes a lot of time to pick up a Language (and it does, you’re not wrong), they offer quick pop ups that invite you to take a five minute refresher each day. Spending such a menial amount of time may feel like you’re barely putting any effort into it at all, but you will soon start to pick things up quicker than you had ever imagined you could have done. It’ll help immensely for any future travels you may have planned – and if not, it’s time to start booking your flights!
You’re never too old to learn something new!
