New Yorker Afternoon Tea

With a name like New Yorker Afternoon Tea, we were intrigued. Firstly, if only so we could get a taste of New York (since we won’t be travelling internationally anytime soon). Secondly, it was being offered by The Alchemy at The Starhill Dining, which recently reopened after a year-long renovation process.

Sandwiches, anyone?

We made our way down on a Saturday Afternoon to get a taste. Seeing that The Alchemy was full, we were seated at Shook! instead.

Deviled eggs, goat cheese gateaux with pistachio crumble with honey drizzled over it (I could’ve devoured many more of these!) and chicken and leek pithivier made up the savouries.

Scones and other desserts

As for the scones, my husband (the self-declared scone connoisseur) didn’t take to it, as they didn’t come with the usual Devonshire clotted cream we’re used to.

I have to say that desserts were done really well at the afternoon tea. From deviled mont blanc tart to hibiscus-pineapple croquette (which actually reminded us of a CNY pineapple tart) to maple pecan cheesecake and more, we ended on a sweet note.

A ‘masculine’ afternoon tea

By the end of it all, we were completely stuffed. We noticed that this wasn’t the usual afternoon teas which we’ve been to. It had ‘heavier’ items on the menu, if you will. The sandwich portions alone were sizeable and definitely not petite afternoon tea sized. We learnt later on that this was a decision they made to make the New Yorker Afternoon Tea more ‘masculine’ with the portions sizing and with the inclusion of items like classic Reuben sandwich and smoked salmon bagel.

Personally, I think this puts a fresh twist to the afternoon tea. It definitely worked well especially for my husband. If your other half has not been willing to do an afternoon tea, as afternoon teas are supposed to be dainty, the New Yorker Afternoon Tea will certainly change his mind.

Priced at RM160 nett for two, this afternoon tea was filling enough to last us past dinner until breakfast the next morning! It runs every Saturday and Sunday from 3 – 6pm. You can book by calling or messaging 018 9298 060.

Please note that The Starhill Dining is currently closed for sanitation. We advise you to check with them check for current opening hours and dates. Our visit was prior to them closing for sanitisation.

We were invited by The Alchemy at The Starhill Dining. As always, our opinion is honest and our own.
