Shangri-La KL Festive Afternoon Tea

Having been stuck at home for five plus weeks with online learning, I was much in need of a change in scenery. Seeing that Christmas is just around the corner, I thought it’d be great to escape to Shangri-La Hotel’s Festive Afternoon Tea.

My son and I headed over on a Sunday afternoon. As with these times, the usual buzz was missing. The Lobby Lounge did have a handful of diners though. I’d played it safe and had called to reserve a table for us prior. It was a nice surprise to find out that on weekends, the Afternoon Tea is a buffet, at the same price! You can top up as much as you’d like.

Tea for two

As it was just the two of us, I ordered one Festive Afternoon Tea and one Kid’s Festive Afternoon Tea. The sets are presented and served to you at your table for the first round. You get all the items listed on the set, which is a great way to decide on which ones you like. After that, you go up to the buffet counter and order more of those items!

The Festive Afternoon Tea is presented in a pretty three tier tiffin carrier, which contain both savoury and sweet treats. I found all the items delectable but the sweet treats put me in heaven! Oh my, I could’ve had many more of those tiny desserts.

Kid’s Festive Afternoon Tea

I thought that my set looked ‘just’ festive enough. Then, the Kid’s Festive Afternoon Tea arrived. And boy oh boy, was I jealous! With a snowman, a gingerbread man, a Christmas ball and more, sitting atop a round slate plate which was dusted with sugar, it was the epitome of Christmas.

I admit, it was hard to watch my son tuck into his Afternoon Tea as it was all so pretty. But dig in he did! He didn’t much like the savouries, but devoured the sweets. As he isn’t a fan of white chocolate, he was going to leave the snowman alone but he couldn’t resist pulling it apart (is it a boy thing?!). Thankfully he did, as there was a little surprise in each layer.

It would have been nice if carols were playing, but I guess some might find it too early for that! Having the menu on the table with us would also have been nice, so we knew what we were tucking into. But all in all, we definitely had a wonderful time out and returned home recharged for the next week of online learning.

How much is it?

The Festive Afternoon Tea is RM75 nett per person and a Kid’s Festive Afternoon Tea is RM45 nett per child (does not include any beverage). The Afternoon Tea runs until 31 December 2020, daily from 3pm – 6pm. Have a look at their website here for more information.

Delivery options are available for the Festive Afternoon Tea, but please check with the hotel for the Kid’s Festive Afternoon Tea delivery. Just note that delivery fee is free if you’re within 3km distance. It is RM18 for 3-5km and RM38 for 5–10km (which is quite steep considering it’s almost half the price of one Festive Afternoon Tea).
