Running and multi-sport events in KL for the whole family

When I tell non-runners that my children and I attend Running events and the odd triathlon in Malaysia they usually think I’m slightly mad, but we have never left a race disappointed, and we have always come away with a fresh sense of Malaysia Boleh.

The wonderful thing about these events is there is something for everyone; whether you are a competitive sporting family, or run for fun and fitness, there is an event in KL for your family.  If you are new to the sport, and want to ‘give it a go’ then Malaysia is the place to do it.  You will find people from myriad nationalities and abilities.  Depending on the event and the Categories available, you find walkers, walk/runners, or runners who go for podium finishes.

Whether this is something new for you, or you are looking for events to enable you to focus your training and get the kids into competitive running, here’s a taste of what’s happening in KL for the first quarter of 2017.

A small disclaimner:

I haven’t attended all the events, therefore I can’t comment individually, but from the events I have attended, they are generally very well organised. However, it does pay to take your own water and snack to fuel up.

  • Usually breakfast is provided in the way of fruit, or if you are lucky, a Nasi Lemak, but just like the boy scouts it does pay to be prepared.
  • Energy drinks are always in abundance, but I have participated in events where there was not enough water.
  • Also, know your limits, and those of your children, running in the tropics, while fun and great for fitness, can  be tough on the body due to the heat, so train to meet the course and stay hydrated.
  • One last thing make sure that the event has a category which fits your child’s age and ability.  If you are searching yourself not all events cater for kids, but the ones that follow certainly do.

The following list is not exhaustive, but we will endeavour to update the site as best we can as new events appear. Some events are really popular and will fill up quickly, so register as soon as you possibly can if you are keen to participate. Standard Charter and Spartan are such events.
