Summertime means the days are longer, the weather is hotter, and my kids are out of school. While I love them to pieces there’s one dreaded phrase that comes out of their mouths WAY too often during this “break”. You know, it’s the classic “I’m bored!”(a.k.a. entertain me NOW or I’ll keep you from doing that thing you call work!). My husband and I work from home most days so that means during the summer we have to attempt to juggle the kids and deadlines. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always go so well.

One way we have found to ease the perpetual “I’m bored” parrot talk from happening is to occasionally plan a Road Trip. Just something that we can drive to and back in one day if we wish or make a weekend of it if we’re feeling whole hog. This way the kids have something to look forward to and hopefully keep those little minds occupied while we are trying to pay for those outings.

However, before we head for any kind of road trip we first have to make sure our car is in tip top shape. We’ve had past road trips where car issues have popped up. Like accidents, system failures, and blown tires. When we have to chance to prevent something bad from happening like engine failure you better believe we are all over that. No one wants to be stuck on the side of the road with kids and a broke down car!

Can you say Saweeeet!!

If you are ever visiting Texas you have to check out these 5 Kid-Friendly Texas Road Trip Destinations. Your kids will thank you for it!

Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Resort in New Braunfels Texas

One of my kid’s absolute favorite places to go is Schlitterbahn. Heck, it’s one of our favorite places too! For good reason too, it’s been voted the best waterpark in world many times. We typically spend all day there riding water rides and even pack a cooler full of goodies. Yes, this places still lets you take your own food and drinks in. We love that! Schlitterbahn has something for everyone with both lazy and rushing rivers, loads of speed slides, and plenty of pools and beaches for every member of the family.

SeaWorld San Antonio

Another one of my kid’s favorite Texas destinations is SeaWorld. They especially love the Bay of Play which is a water playground of sorts with 22 different things that will get you wet! They also adore all of the shows with splash zones as well as Pets Ahoy. If water is involved they are there! SeaWorld is a marine mammal theme park where your kids can get up close and personal with whales, seals, and other marine life.

Space Center Houston

Is one of your children an outer space aficionado? Well, you can miss going to the Space Center in Houston then! Or you may hear, “Houston, we have a problem!”. Here your children will learn about space exploration in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) powered environment and be able to explore a massive space museum. There are always traveling exhibits and new events going on so your kids will never be bored!

Natural Bridge Caverns San Antonio

If you have boys you can’t skip Natural Bridge Caverns. It’s a boys dream with all the rocks and dirt they can imagine, UNDERGROUND! They are home to the largest known commercial caverns in the state of Texas. You get to see cool things like formations that were simply formed by drops of water and time. They also have a 5,000 square foot outdoor maze and an area where you can mine and pan for gems. I’m sure even your princess wouldn’t mind a few gems, would she?

The Houston Museum of Natural Science

This museum features a planetarium and a butterfly center but what I think is the most special is The Morian Hall of Paleontology. They have more than 450 fossils and fossil replicas that your little dinosaur explorers will love. Better watch out! T-rex might be around the corner!!

Going on a road trip soon? Be sure to find the closest Walmart Automotive Care Center to you and have them check out your car. Better be safe, than sorry!!
