4 Reasons Your House is Not Selling

When you’re looking to sell your home, it can be a pretty stressful time. There are a lot of different things to arrange and organize. You need to keep your home in good order, as well as think about sorting and packing up your things.

What is most stressful of all is if it looks like your home isn’t Selling. If it has been on the market for a few months, it can be quite a daunting prospect when people are coming to view it but then don’t make any offers. So here are a few things that might be putting people off buying your house.

House Not Selling? Do You Have Stains On Your Ceilings Or Walls?

Damp and mold can be a big problem for homeowners. Some people don’t want to get themselves involved in a home that has obvious mold. A survey from Go Compare found that around 70% of people won’t buy a home if they see damp or mold stains. It just makes them wonder what bad things are lurking behind the walls.

If there are any walls or areas of the room that have stains, it is a good idea to treat the problem as soon as you can and then redecorate and paint the room. You don’t want people to think that there is a problem when there isn’t.

House Not Selling? Are There Large Trees Too Close To The House?

I would love to live in a house that has a yard full of large trees. You typically only find these on older properties, though. Yes, large trees are lovely and do give lots of shade but can be some cause for concern. Not only during storms when they can come crashing down on your house. but the roots of the Tree could affect the foundation of the property as well. After all, if the tree is still growing, then the roots will be too.

So it might be worth looking at a site like for some advice on getting rid of large trees like that. It can be a concern for some buyers so its best to remedy the problem now. 

House Not Selling? Do You Have Too Much Clutter?

When you start having open houses and people are constantly viewing your home, then it’s time to depersonalize your home. Potential buyers need to be able to image themselves in the home. So if you have a large wall full of family photographs, or have lots of clutter and trinkets around the place, then it could be a good idea to pack them away.

You need to start packing anyway and this is the perfect excuse. When you’re settled in your new home, then by all means, bring them out again. But until then, try to keep your home as simple and tidy as possible.

House Not Selling? Could It Be Bad Smells?

When someone walks in a house for the first time, and it doesn’t smell good, it immediately gives them a bad impression. So make sure that the windows are opened regularly. It is also a good idea to make sure that you vacuum often and use things like scented candles or air fresheners in every room.

Don’t overwhelm they with a thousand scents, just make it smell nice. Then potential buyers will have a great first impression as soon as they walk through your door. Remember it’s the little details that make all the difference.
