As a modern Woman, you will know only too well that life can be pretty challenging at times, which is why it’s so important that we take the time to invest in ourselves and in learning invaluable life skills that will make the big old mess we call living much easier for us to do.
With that in mind, here are what I think are some of the most invaluable life skills any woman around town can learn right now:
How to Protect Your Online Privacy
With all of the recent revelations about Facebook and other companies selling and using our data to manipulate us in a whole host of ways, it has never been more important that we each take our own cyber privacy seriously. It’s not just companies selling data that we have to worry about either; there has been a shocking rise in cyberstalking and similar crimes putting Women at risk every time they log on. So, when you’re online, try to ensure that your security settings are as robust as they can be, minimizing the number of people who can see your information, and think carefully before even entering your data at all.
Everyone – man or woman- should know how to complete basic DIY tasks around the home. Things like changing a plug or putting up a set of shelves really aren’t that difficult to learn, and they mean that you don’t have to call into a contractor or rely on your spouse to get those little jobs around the house done, which isn’t always as soon as you would like.
First-Aid and CPR
Taking a CPR & First-Aid Certification Class, which are widely available is a very sensible thing for any woman (or man for that matter) to do as soon as they can because it means that if the kids or a neighbor are injured injured and quick action needs to be taken, you can jump right in and do what needs to be done instead of panicking or having to wait for an ambulance to arrive. It could save lives, and that’s why it’s probably one of the most important life skills anyone can ever learn.
How to Eat/ Travel Alone
A lot of women don’t like eating alone because they feel self-conscious and they think that people will be judging them for it. Many women don’t like to travel alone because they are afraid as well as self-conscious. All this does is prevent women from doing the things they would like to unless they have a spouse or a friend who can tag along. By exposing yourself to solo situations more often, the world will open up to you, and you will be able to do exactly what you want exactly when you want. Doesn’t that sound good?
Learn to Say No
Having the confidence to say “No!” can transform your life. It can get you back your time (turning down overtime or helping with things you’d rather not), and it can prevent people from giving you unwanted attention (turning down drinks, dates, etc.). So, take an assertiveness class and practice saying “No” more if you aren’t already good at it and start enjoying your life more. It really can be transformative!
