Digital savvy devotees for the upcoming Sinulog Festival can now easily move around Cebu’s grandest celebration with the help of a mobile app. Designed to attract the younger generation, you can search and download ‘Sinulog 2019’ in Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and install the app on your handsets. This digital upgrade is dubbed as a must-have mobile companion during the week-long activity.

Built by Startechup Inc., the 2019 version was officially launched on January 4th. According to Sinulog Foundation Executive Committee Chair and City Councilor Dave Tumulak, “the app seeks to enhance the Sinulog experiences that devotees and revelers love during the festival.”

“The public can also get updates of Sinulog activities, schedules, and other information by downloading the app,” he added.

Cebu celebrates Sinulog festival every third Sunday of January in honor of Cebu’s patron, Sr. Sto. Niño. During this occasion, you’ll find the energy and bustle almost overwhelming, as millions of devotees and revelers spill into Cebu City.  This week-long celebration includes religious and cultural activities, concerts, contests, and trade exhibits which culminates with a religious procession on January 19 and a grand Sinulog parade on January 20.

To keep up with the numerous activities, I suggest that you download the latest Sinulog app. Through this, you can access information about various Sinulog events, maps of the official route, read timely updates, buy tickets, and even learn where to party. Important announcements and developments can also be accessed, which you can immediately share via social media.  Announcements on festival updates and promo winners are also included in the app.

Another feature which I found quite useful is that I can now plot my personal Sinulog event schedule — devotion, festival and parties with the “Favorites” option.  Just tap the heart icon beside your selected events.

App users can also avail of discount and rewards coupons from various app partners. Everybody can win prizes through this app, with GCash Rewards giving away P1,000 daily from January 13 to 21, 2019. Just post your Sinulog 2019 moments in Facebook with hashtags #SinulogMoments and #PagGCashNaBai. The photo/video with most likes during the day wins. And daily winners will be announced via the app’s News and Announcement feature.

Sinulog 2019 Festival Queen

Once again, app users can participate in the selection of the App Users’ Choice Award for Sinulog Festival Queen, Best Sinulog Contingent and Sinulog Idol. You can vote for your favorite contingent as soon as they’re uploaded in the app server on the evening of January 20, when network signal is restored.  

Originally, the app was created last 2018 as Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has been pushing for ways to reach the youth.  The upgraded 2019 version is more streamlined with additional features, providing us with the basic information needed to enjoy a festival that celebrates the birth of Christianity in Southeast Asia.
