Mislatel Consortium, deemed the third telecommunications player in the country, is planning to team up with its rivals PLDT Inc and Globe Telecom.

The consortium’s spokesperson Atty. Adel Tamano said in a DZMM radio interview, as reported by ABS-CBN News, the partnership deal will not reduce competition, rather it will boost the revenues of the two existing players.

Tamano told DZMM radio the firm is open to partnership with Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc as Mislatel Consortium shares the same vision as the other two telcos.

“[This] is to provide the best world-class Internet and telco services to Filipinos,” he said.

Tamano went on to say that the consortium’s plan to partner with its rivals “is not because [it wants] to collude,” but rather it believes that if the company brings in new technology and if the telco services improve, the existing telcos’ revenue will grow even further.

Furthermore, partnerships could be in the form of the use of the partner’s network at the moment its own network is not yet available. That means Mislatel sharing cell sites and domestic roaming with PLDT and Globe Telecom.

In any case, if the plan will push through, it could be a welcome treat to Filipinos who wish to have a more improved Internet and telco services.

Named Philippines’ 3rd Major Telecommunications Player

Back on November 7 last year, Mislatel Consortium was dubbed the 3rd major telecommunications player of the country after garnering a total score of 456.8 points out of 500 possible points under the criteria of the Highest Level Commitment of Service (HCLOS).

Mislatel Consortium is under Chinal Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom) and Udenna Corporation of Davao business tycoon, Dennis Uy.

The Criteria

The selection criteria include the following: 25% for the minimum average broadband speed, 35% for the capital and operational expenditure, and 40% for the national population coverage.

The firm was considered the lone qualified bidder after two other bidders were disqualified due to incomplete bid documents. These two other bidders include the Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (PT&T) and Luis Chavit Singson Group, and TierOne Communications’ Sear Telecom consortium.

10K Cell Sites In The Next Seven Years

Meanwhile, Tamano also revealed the firm’s plan to install 10,000 cell sites within seven years in a bid to provide high-quality communication services to the consumers.

Tamano said in a television interview that Mislatel Consortium is preparing quite a few memorandums of agreement and understanding with an array of stakeholders in the telco industry.

Currently, Philippines comes with 16,000 cell sites against a total of 67 million Internet users across the country.

Working With The National Government And Local Government Units

Presently, Mislatel Consortium is also working with the national government along with local government units in a bid to speed up the consortium’s rollout plan.

“We admit that we cannot do this without help from our partners, including the LGUs and national government,” Tamano said.

He added that with the proper policy instruments, the firm will be able to execute a good rollout. He also went on to say that telecom services and Internet will soon be cheaper, better, and faster.
