Traditions: Seven Ideas for Keeping Your Kids Entertained Over the Holidays

The holidays are here, and the kids are home from school. As a parent, it’s up to you to keep them entertained. Whatever will you do?

Fortunately, there are plenty of family friendly activities that will ensure you all have a great time. Here are some you may consider.

Bake Christmas Treats

Christmas is the ideal time for baking treats. It’s easy to bring your kids in on the fun. Depending on their age, they may be able to bake cookies and cakes on their own. If they’re not old enough yet, bring them in for the decorating.

Host a Holiday Themed Sleepover

There’s no doubt that your kids will want to see their friends during the Christmas break. For a low maintenance play date, have them over for a holiday themed movie sleepover. Get a bunch of classics, some pizza and snacks and let them create their own fun.

Volunteer Together

The holidays are a good time to remember the people who aren’t as fortunate as you. Soup kitchens and food banks always need extra help during the Christmas season. You may also be able to wrap gifts at your local mall. Volunteering will be a great way to teach your child the spirit of giving.

Go Outside and Play

Children tend not to feel the cold as much as adults do. Give them a break from cabin fever and let them go outside and play. If there is snow on the ground, they can have fun building snowmen and throwing snowballs. You may even get them to shovel for you!

Read

Reading is a great activity. Its entertaining and it’s educational. If you have a younger child, get some holiday classics that will put you both in the holiday spirit. If your child is older, go to the library to find chapter books they will enjoy. Then cozy up with some blankets and hot chocolate and enjoy quiet time getting lost in your stories.

Make Decorations

There are tons of DIY Christmas decorations, many that you can make with your child. Think of cutting snowflakes out of construction paper or making snowmen out of paper plates. Hang them around the house to make your child proud of his or her creations.

Play Board Games

Family game night is a terrific holiday event. It will make for memorable bonding moments, and it can provide an educational experience. Which games do you have to bust out for get-togethers?

There’s a seemingly never-ending number of things you can do with your child during holiday vacations. These ideas will make your kid’s vacation jam packed with fun. The only problem is, he or she will probably never want to go back to school!
