Decorating: Decorate With Poinsettias for the Holidays

Though Poinsettias are beautiful plants, Below we found some beautiful ideas for using poinsettias to create a chic Christmas look for the happiest of holidays.

Flower Arrangement

Display the season's best—poinsettias, amaryllis, evergreen—in this easy Christmas arrangement. Tuck potted amaryllis into the center of a poinsettia plant (gently separate the leaves to make space) and cover with evergreen sprigs. Finish by placing the entire arrangement into a simple wooden planter

Flank the fireplace

Flank the fireplace. The traditional look of flanking your fireplace with poinsettias is a quick and easy way to make your space festive in a hurry. Just remember to position them out of the way if you light the fire.

DYI Table Center Piece

Items: Any empty container you have at home, evergreen trimmings from your backyard (or the neighbors), pruning shears, and 3- Poinsettias (size depends on container)

Steps: Simply place the three Poinsettias, leaving them in their pot and decorative wrap, inside the empty container. Snip pieces of the evergreen foliage and place them inside the container so they spill over the sides. That’s it!

Decorating a Poinsettia Plant

First decide on the look you want for your plant. Do you want to go glam with sparkles and pretty sparkly sticks? Or do you prefer a more natural look with burlap ribbon and a few evergreen or cedar sprigs? Maybe you’d like to add a hit of colour with some winter berries?

Here’s a list of options you can use to DIY your way to a pretty and festive poinsettia centerpiece:

a glam pot

picks of sparkly twigs

evergreen sprigs

cedar springs

Create a rustic advent calendar

Go back to nature with this quirky, woodland way of presenting Advent's 24 little surprises. Simply nail numbered rectangles of black card onto a wooden or cork pin board, and decorate with baubles, Christmas cards, pine cones, sprigs of greenery and small gift bags containing mini poinsettia plants.

Poinsettia Wreath

I have wanted to create a gorgeous red poinsettia wreath for awhile now, and today I got my chance!

I purchased a medium sized grape vine wreath as my base and then used seared poinsettia bracts placed in water picks to fill in the wreath. It was incredibly simple to create and looks just lovely!

I cut some fresh juniper and holly to create the garland and then flanked the mantel with some white poinsettias. What I had really hoped to do was decorate two baby Christmas trees on either side of the mantel with cut poinsettia bracts which I think would have looked amazing.

If the Shoe Fits

Got a pair of old boots lying around? Or how about some skates? Talk about a super unique way to display flowers! Check out these adorable examples below

A DIY Poinsettia decor idea with a twist! You can use burlap to replicate a poinsettia plant, and use it to decorate the mantel or Christmas tree. Lots of people love decorating with burlap so we couldn’t leave this one off the list!

Poinsettia Ice Skates Decoration

If you’re looking for a little thrifty centerpiece option, try integrating your poinsettias with a pair of old ice skates. Creatively Southern’s tutorial is beautiful, but we’re going to add our own natural poinsettia twist!

Choose a poinsettia in the shade that best fits your color scheme

Clean out the inside of a pair of old skates

Cut off the top of a plastic water bottle with a pair of scissors

Place the bottle in the heel of the skates and add a little soil

Put your poinsettia in the soil and lace up the boots

If you want to add some holiday shine, sprinkle some glitter, throw in a few extra greens and wrap the skates up with a bow! You can also spray some adhesive or mod podge on the skates and place faux crafting snowflakes on them for a winter wonderland look!

Build a tower of flowers.

For a dramatic look that's super-easy to achieve, drape a step stool or ladder with a white sheet, and set poinsettia pots on each step (way cheaper than buying a pre-made poinsettia tree rack). Because the colorful leaves spread out so beautifully, you don't have to be an expert floral artist to achieve a drop-dead gorgeous effect.

Liven Up Your Christmas Tree

Tired of decorating your Christmas tree with the usual ornaments, lights and garland? Give a unique twist to the look of your tree by covering all of its green foliage with poinsettias. Buy a bushel of poinsettias and a floral vial for each flower. Fill every vial with water and add a poinsettia to it. Then, insert the poinsettias into your Christmas tree’s foliage. For a more complete and interesting look, cover all available green areas with poinsettias to give the impression that your Christmas tree is flowering.
