Life Lessons Blogging Has Taught Me

It is crazy to say, but I have been Blogging since 2016! During these years of blogging I’ve learned a ton of things.

I’ve learned about domains and web hosting, how to make my website look half decent, how to create a logo, how to use Social Media, what makes an interesting caption, what the deal with hashtags is, how to get comfortable in front of a camera, how to schedule posts, and more!

But these aren’t the lessons I’m talking about today. Today we’re getting into some solid life lessons that blogging has taught me.

I can figure out a lot of things.

I never knew how capable I was! I learned how to build my website by reading a ton of blog posts and tutorials. Before 2016, I never thought I’d be doing anything like that! But through blogging and all the activities that come with it, I’ve learned that I can figure out a lot of things on my own.

But in response to that, I’ve learned…

Getting help is way faster than trying to go it by yourself.

And you often get a better result, too!

I don’t particularly enjoy the technical aspect behind my website, so I should really just hire it out.

I wanted to learn more about making a podcast. I could have done days of research from various sources, but I saved a bunch of time by investing in a book and a course that told me everything I need to know.

Getting help is the biggest shortcut to getting stuff done.

My strengths and weaknesses.

I’m like most small-time bloggers in that I do virtually everything for my blog by myself. That means I write the blog posts, emails, social media captions, I do all the editing, I format the content to make it look good, I schedule posts, I promote posts, I respond to and interact with people on social media, I model for and take the photos, I create Pinterest graphics, I create the editorial calendar, I make plans for and create products, I check the analytics, I insert code onto my website, I update plugins, I answer emails, I do it all!

And through doing those bajillion things, I’ve figured out where my strengths and weaknesses lie, and what parts of blogging I enjoy and what things I’m going to delegate ASAP.

How to work for myself.

Nobody is looking over my shoulder telling me that there’s a blog post due. No one is going to make sure I keep working on my ebook. All of the motivation for getting the work done is coming from myself.

So I’ve had to learn how to stay motivated, how to get the work done even when I’m not feeling so motivated, and how to schedule and batch my work so I work smarter and not harder.

Commitment.

Blogging is HARD. And there have definitely been times where I let go of that commitment because of other things in my life, but the longer I blogged (or the longer I didn’t blog), the more I realized that I really enjoy it and that I really need to make that commitment to do the hard work, to prioritize it, and to make it work.
