May 2021, Tarot Spread

Today, I woke up to a new month. When I stepped outside, the sun shone brightly, and various flowers were in bloom. Just like the trees and plants are coming out of hibernation, my personal life is waking up to new opportunities.

With my book almost ready to be published and new career opportunities coming my way, it has led me to thoughts about the past. In my reminiscing, I see the evidence of a wonderful family and village who have supported and guided me on my journey. Whose Support has enhanced and shaped the quality of my life.

There are times in our lives, where we don’t have the answers about where we’re going, or what will happen. This unknown element has the potential to trigger great fear and confusion within us. As a result, our lives can become hectic, unbalanced, and unpleasant.

But we do not walk alone. Even when it looks like we do, there’s always guidance and support available to us. As I transition into the next stage of my life, there comes the potential for great worry and concern. But that does not mean that I need to embrace or accept these emotions as part of the process of my growth.

As I stood outside this morning, and felt the warmth of the sun, I was filled with joy and happiness not only due to the many-colored flowers, but because of my friends and family. In that moment I wished to express the gratitude I have for their support and love. Which led me to consider this month’s Tarot spread.

I never know what I’m going to do until the morning of the first when I wake up and consider what’s been on my mind and what’s important to me. As this month energy seeps into my being, I take guidance from my intuition. And as I flipped through my binder of Tarot spreads, I was unable to find what I was searching for.

Connection Spread: May 2021

As a result, I combined different elements from various Tarot spreads I enjoy and created a brand new one called a Connection Spread.

As I considered what’s important to me, I felt drawn to those who have supported and loved me, teaching me the wisdom that they have to share. Be that my own support (self-love), my friends and family, or my many Spirit Guides I have never been placed in a position where I had to walk alone.

As my life continues to grow and blossom, I have chosen to reach out to those people and beings, so that my path moving forward this month can be one filled with happiness. So this month, my question, as I sat down to do my Tarot spread was…

Question: Seeking guidance so we may spend this month supported and guided by our village.

Shadow Card: Ace of Cups

We first start with our shadow card, the Ace of Cups. As you know the shadow card represents the overall feeling and energy present in the spread. With the Ace of Cups we see a cup overflowing, which symbolizes the opportunity to spend this month overflowing in all things positive and joyous.

Like all the aces, this card is potential energy, teaching us that we have the option in our lives to spend it filled with love and happiness or if we choose, other emotions. This state of potential teaches us that a lot of our life is dependent on what we choose.

If we choose to see life from the perception of pain and fear, our mind will naturally filter out all the information that isn’t relevant, like love and hope. For this reason, how we choose to see the world, will not only shape what we see but by extension what we choose to do and say, which as a result will manifest what type of life we live.

1 You- How you can support yourself: The Devil

We then move to card number one, which represents how you can support yourself. The Devil is an often-misunderstood card, because he comes about in the story arc of the Major Arcana after we feel we have mastered the physical and the spiritual, and he puts what we know to the test.

This card has come to symbolize our internal fears and worries. But what’s most informative about this card is that while fear might be triggered by an external or internal source in the world around us, it is still our choice whether or not we stick with the fear or transition into approaching and utilizing love, hope and faith in our life.

If you take a moment to look at the two people within the card, you can see chains around their neck. But these chains are not cinched tightly but rather hang loosely. This simple visual, displays that we can leave fear at any time.

While we are tested to see if we do indeed possess faith, patience, love, etc. we are not required to stay in those placed or retain those thoughts of fear. We are our own prisoners choosing to stay.

Another important element to the Devil is the presence of Arch Angel Uriel, and he’s all about thoughts. Which teaches us that we can self-manifest elements of fear in our lives by becoming trapped within our own mind.

Given the position of this card, the Devil teaches us that the best support we can give ourselves this month is to practice self-control. Don’t allow the thoughts in your own head to conjure an environment and lifestyle built on fear.

If you need a helping hand this month, consider using an amber stone due to its connection to Arch Angel Uriel, and don’t hesitate

to reach out to this Arch Angel whenever your thoughts turn toxic.

2 Your Higher Self- The insight and guidance your higher self can provide: Eight of Wands

We then move to card number two representing our higher self, represented by the 8 of Wands. Now the 8 of Wands symbolizes movement as we can see with these eight wands traveling through this image.

Today when I looked at this card, I saw these wands following a

downwards trajectory. This downward trajectory represents the answering of prayers and the sending of guidance and support.

There are times in our lives when we don’t have the answers or know why something is happening. Our own ignorance can be troubling, but doesn’t need to be.

Our higher self, our soul contains all the knowledge that we possess, and entered into this lifetime, knowing where we would go and

who we would become. As a result, our higher self guides our human self, helping us with knowledge that we don’t consciously possess.

If you are familiar with inner child work, you know that this technique has us visualize going back to our younger self in that moment when we no-longer felt safe. Through this process we play the healing and guiding role in our younger selves’ life, re-writing moments in our past that we wish had gone differently in order to energetically heal old wounds.

Our higher self takes a very similar approach to this, where our higher self energetically guides us with knowledge we don’t possess. Chances are that we will in the future come back energetically with knowledge we don’t currently possess to provide aid.

We do not walk alone. That comes from our friends and family, our spirit guides, but it also comes from our higher self and even our self today. Even though we can’t see the sender of these eight wands, we know our higher self looks out for us and will always send us support and guidance.

3 Friends- How we can connect with them: Two of Cups

We then move to card number three, representing friends and how we can connect with them. The 2 of Cups represents healing conversations, letting us know that we can connect with our friends showing mutual support and guidance through a simple phone, conversation, email or in

person chat.

This card due to its healing nature also lets us know that sometimes we need to have that hard conversation in order to preserve, heal, and continue a great friendship. Even though this vulnerability and uncomfortable sensation can deter us from having these conversations, these feelings only last a moment and afterwards we receive the benefit of deeper connection, understanding clarity, and love.

4 Family- How we can support each other: Four of Swords

We then transition to card number four, family how you can support each other. The 4 of Swords represents the Hermit’s repose or a mental relaxation from deep thought and consideration. Just as it is important to consider things and go back and reevaluate, we also need to honor the resting

stage of any cycle.

This card also represents that we can support each other through providing space, as well as creating an environment of rest and healing versus chaotic and argumentative energy. It also represents honoring boundaries.

Communicating what we need and how we feel helps others to know this information and facilitate our needs. In this manner we receive the care we desire and need.

Just as it is important that we have time alone. It is important that we demonstrate this to others as well, respecting when they need time and space to heal, rest and relax. Not only is this a wonderful sign of respect, but it also adheres to the Golden Rule- that you treat people the way you wish to be treated.

5 spirit guides- Who walks with us at this time: Knight of Wands

While we may not see or hear our spirit guides in the same manner in which we hear and see our friends and family, they are no less a part of our lives if that’s what we choose. Our spirit guides range in size, shape, and style but they all respect us. If we wish them to be a part of our lives and receive aid, we must invite them in.

must invite them in.

A spirit guide will respect our free will and will continue to respect our boundaries even when we invite them in. But once we say, “welcome,” they will be hard at work to guide and support us no matter what stage of our life’s journey we are on.

Represented by the Knight of Wands, you will see this knight in the process of movement. His tunic is flapping in the wind, the horse is rearing up ready to charge forward, and we can see a representation of action in this card, which lets us know that our spirit guides do not sit idly by on the sidelines as we live our life. But instead they are actively engaging with us to provide support, guidance, and traveling ahead of us making sure that knowledge and guidance is sent our way so we can become prepared for what is yet to come.

For greater clarity as to which spirit guides are with you, I would highly recommend taking the time to do this spread for yourself. You can even pull out an Oracle deck instead to get different imagery that

might help you connect with who your spirit guides are.

Since our spirit guides can be ancestors, fairies, dragons, animals, angels, and more utilizing this spread personally will not only help you shed light on who is there for you spiritually but also who your friends and family are.

6 Animal Totem- Who to look for and channel: Queen of Cups

While animal totems are a form of spirit guides, I love them not only because of the various personality and energies that they possess, but that they are around us at all times. While a fairy or a ancestor might not be visible for us, animal totems can become visual and auditory messengers. We can not

only see them in the wild, but through pictures or hearing their sound.

With the Queen of Cups, we see the message of intuition and keeping an eye out for who is around you. But also, I was very drawn to the blue in this card the water in her apparel as well as around her. Which led me to the information that right now animal totems connected with the ocean, such as sea turtles and whales would be wonderful to research and connect with at this time. Channeling their strengths even if they aren’t your personal power animal or spiritual animal Totem will help you navigate life at this time.

You never know where or when an animal totem might make itself known. That’s one of the reasons why I love them. For example, this afternoon after I had completed this spread but before I posted it, I was driving and came across a running horse. Not only was this horse moving, but it was the exact same shade of red as seen on the Knight of Wands card, representing our spirit guides.

Despite having driven past that house dozens of times, I have never seen that horse in that yard before. Proof positive, that we have never been left to walk our path alone.

7 angel- Help so we may remain grounded and balanced: Four of Pentacles
