Just before 1pm on Wednesday September 8th, a Fire broke on the second floor of a in what is described at a multi-unit apartment building. Minutes after the first fire units arrived on scene a second alarm was rung.
Neighbors tell us that all the roads are shut down, that news helicopters can be seen overhead and they report, “never seeing that many units ever in one place”. Other Neighbors reports hearing fire alarms going off throughout the neighborhood and the heavy smell of smoke. The fire is at what has been described by many neighbors as the “drug house” in the area.
Firefigheters were seen punching holes in the roof to vent the smoke.
All streets near Winthrop Street including Dow, Berry, and Wood are shut down.
At approximately 2:10pm, trucks were seen leaving the scene, while others remained. Building department was dispatched at about 2:20pm to determine if the building is safe for habituation.
