Since there are so many groovy plays, musicals, concerts and events, this is my monthly list to help promote a few of them (click on a title for more information or to purchase tickets):

1) Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical
Broadway previews begin September 1. Opens October 6 at Studio 54.
Roundabout Theatre Company presents the Broadway premiere of this dazzling new musical inspired by the Academy Award-winning 1942 film. With music and lyrics by the legendary Irving Berlin, direction by Gordon Greenberg and a book by Greenberg and Chad Hodge, this heartwarming classic with a contemporary sparkle features thrilling dance numbers, laugh-out-loud comedy and a parade of hit Irving Berlin songs, including “Blue Skies”, “Easter Parade”, “Cheek to Cheek” “Shaking the Blues Away” and more. The cast includes Bryce Pinkham, Corbin Bleu and Lora Lee Gayer.




2) Wonderful Town
September 10 - October 16 at Chicago's Goodman Theatre
Mary Zimmerman directs a lavish revival of Leonard Bernstein’s classic musical about two sisters, Ruth and Eileen Sherwood (Bri Sudia, Lauren Molina), who leave behind their mundane Ohio lives in pursuit of making it big in New York City.




3) The Bardy Bunch: The War of the Families Partridge and Brady
September 15 - November 20 at Chicago's Mercury Theater
This musical parody mash-up of a dozen Shakespeare plays is set in the 1970s and features the warring sitcom families, who sing, dance, tell corny sitcom jokes and kill each other in acts of jealousy, vengeance and rage. It features songs made famous on The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch, including "I Think I Love You", "It's a Sunshine Day", "I Woke Up in Love This Morning" and other groovy hits!



4) The Front Page
Broadway previews begin September 20. Opens October 20 at the Broadhurst Theatre.
This revival of the classic 1928 comedy about tough reporters trying to beat each other for the big scoop features a cast that includes Nathan Lane, John Slattery, John Goodman, Jefferson Mays, Holland Taylor, Sherie Rene Scott and Robert Morse.


5)  Reeling 2016: The 34th Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival
September 22 - 29
Reeling, the second-oldest LGBT film festival in the world, returns for its 34th edition. This year's selections include the hilarious dragtastic revenge comedy, Hurricane Bianca, the romantic comedy, Bear City 3, the documentary, Upstairs Inferno, director Rob Williams' romantic comedy, Shared Rooms, and the crime thriller, King Cobra (starring James Franco and Christian Slater).




6) 30th Annual Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction
September 25 in NYC's Shubert Alley, West 44th Street & West 45th Street
Join Broadway Cares and thousands of other theatre fans as they find one-of-a-kind showbiz treasures, meet their favorite cast members and bid on exclusive backstage experiences. One of the most anticipated days of the year on Broadway, this annual event is free and open to the public.



7) A Gentle Reminder - Coco's Guide to a Somewhat Happy Life
September 25 & 26 at NYC's Birdland
Ever since becoming a YouTube sensation, Miss Coco Peru has been inundated with emails from people of all ages asking her the same question, “Coco, what is the secret to a happy life?” So, being the giver that she is, Coco wrote this new show, in which she shares with her audience a step-by-step guide that leaves them prepared to enter the world again and ready to create their very own “somewhat” happy life.




8) Falsettos
Broadway previews begin September 29. Opens October 27 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
William Finn and James Lapine’s groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical returns to Broadway in a new production, which tells the story of a gay man named Marvin (Christian Borle), his wife Trina (Stephanie J. Block), his lover Whizzer (Andrew Rannells) and their extended family. The cast also includes Anthony Rosenthal, Tracie Thoms, Brandon Uranowitz and Betsy Wolfe.



9) Scooby Don't
September 29 - November 4 at Mary's Attic in Chicago
Hell in a Handbag Productions presents the world premiere of David Cerda's parody of the classic Scooby Doo cartoon, which follows the adventures of four adults – Scaggy, Fredd, Velva and Daffy – who wear the same clothes everyday while driving around in a van with their talking dog, ‘solving mysteries.’ The cast includes Christopher Wilson as Skooby, Josh Kemper as Scaggy, Will Kazda as Fredd, Caitlin Jackson as Velva, Elizabeth Lesinski as Daffy, Ed Jones as Cher (she's Velva's aunt!), Caitlin Boho as Chaz Bono, David Cerda as Kris Jenner and Chazie Bly as Caitlyn Jenner.

10) Tyne Daly in Jerry Herman's Dear World
September 30 at Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University in Northridge, CA
The Tony and Emmy-winning actress steps into the role of mad Countess Aurelia in a one night only concert performance of the musical.
