Magic Kingdom Bound – Day 13

Today is going to be a busy day. Today we visit Walt Disney World. The current plan is to visit Magic Kingdom and hop over to Animal Kingdom. Tomorrow we would do Hollywood Studios in the Morning and EPCOT in the afternoon.

Now just like yesterday my mom and I were both up a couple hours before everyone else. Which works out perfectly. We can get ready before everyone else wakes up.

Now today like yesterday my mom cooked up breakfast. It was another amazing breakfast with eggs, toast, bacon, and corn beef hash. We also grabbed the bagged breakfast from the resort. It wasn’t bad either. It came with pancakes, OJ, fruit, and yogurt. It’s free if you sign up for their free rewards program.

By 8am everyone was up, ate, and ready to go. We drove over to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) and jumped on the Ferry over to Magic Kingdom. We were standing in front of the castle by 08:50 and waiting for them to drop the ropes.

First ride of the day was Space Mountain. For the past couple of days I have been stalking the wait times on the Disney app. I knew that Space Mountain had some of the longer lines throughout the day. Since my daughter and I don’t like waiting in line it helps to know what the average wait times throughout the day will be.

It wasn’t even 9am and the wait time jumped to over 30 minutes. By the time my daughter and brother got off the ride the wait time was 45 minutes. It hung around 30-45 minutes for the rest of the day.

Once they were done we hit up Tomorrowland Speedway, Winnie the Pooh, Little Mermaid, Dumbo, and a bunch of the shops. I also had to make a quick stop off at one of the stores to pick up the Purple Wall Loungefly Backpack. An old friend of mine saw that they came out and wasn’t going to be able to make it to Disney. She was visiting Universal for the week and asked if I could pick one up.

So I did and would end up meeting up with her later in the week to let her have it but more on that later. So after I grabbed the bag we went on rides. Around noon my family went on Pirates while I went to Sunshine Tree Terrace for my Citrus Swirl. That is my favorite snack in Magic Kingdom. It might be my favorite snack in all of Disney.

Well I stood in line for about 20 minutes to get this and when I got up to the order window they said they stopped selling it. The girl said they replaced it with the Back side of Water which was from cotton candy ice cream. Now the citrus swirl was still on the menu so it would have been nice to know it was no longer available so I didn’t waste my time. Plus how are you going to replace citrus with cotton candy? It is no where near the same thing.

Now the wait time listed for Pirates was 45 minutes. However, when I was done at Sunshine Tree Terrace they were getting off the ride too. Guess it goes to show you that the posted wait times are not always correct.

Before we left to head over to Animal Kingdom we stopped for lunch. Now my mother loves Columbia Harbor House. I mean why wouldn’t you. They really do have some good food. The trio platter is pretty good and comes with enough to share. While the Lobster Roll is nothing like you would get in New England. It is still pretty good for getting at a theme park.

After lunch we headed back to the front of the park to jump on the Monorail and head over to Animal Kingdom. We were planning on spending a couple of hours here than heading back to Magic Kingdom to make sure we watched the fireworks. That was the one thing my brother wanted to do was see the fireworks.

It was a simple and easy drive to Animal Kingdom. We parked the car and headed towards the front gate. Before we headed towards the tree of life we stopped for some water. The one thing I forgot to pack on this trip was my refillable water bottles. Oh well, we made do without them. Plus you can get free cups of water all over the place at Walt Disney World.

Now when I go to Animal Kingdom I always go to the left after I scan my ticket. I don’t know why I do but I do. Today we went right and made our way back to Kilmanjaro Safaris. It is one of the best attractions at Walt Disney World. Sure you are not really in Africa on a safari but it does make you feel like you are.

We went on Kilmanjaro Safaris around 02:30 in the afternoon and I wasn’t expecting to see too many animals today. I figured it was so hot out that most of them would be relaxing in the shade. I have never really had luck on this adventure in the afternoon. I have always had better luck first thing in the morning and later in the evening.

Usually when it is a little cooler, I have had the better luck in seeing the most animals. Today it was hot and very humid. However, I think today I seen the most animals I ever had. It was pretty amazing. I don’t think there was one animal that we didn’t see.

Once we got off Kilmanjaro Safaris we headed over to Everest. My daughter has been waiting a year to ride it. Well today was going to be her lucky day as her uncle was going to go on it with her.

The wait time wasn’t bad either. It was only a 20 minute wait and before you knew it they were coming off the ride. My mother, brother’s girlfriend, and I waiting and watched to see if we saw them going down the big drop.

We didn’t see them but I do think that I heard my daughter’s scream. I think every parent knows what there kid sounds like even in a place as crowded as Disney. I could pick her scream out of a hundred screams.

From here we started to make our way to Pandora. We were just going to walk around and see all the amazing sites. To bad it wouldn’t be dark though. Pandora is an amazing land at Animal Kingdom at night time. Everything is lit up so beautifully.

As we were walking to Pandora we came across a place that sold Coca-Cola icees. My brother loves him a coke icee. So he got one. Now they also had Jack and Coke Icee. Now I love my Jack and Coke so I couldn’t, not get one.

I usually don’t drink when I am at the theme parks. Plus I would never get the hard stuff. But I just couldn’t pass this one up. It was a hot day so the iced cold drink would be good. Plus I didn’t think I would even taste the jack. Well, I was wrong. You could taste the jack. They didn’t skimp on the Jack in this mixed icee drink.

We got the drinks right near where the Up show is. By the time we got to Tusker House. My drink was gone. Plus it pretty much melted too. That sun was brutal today.

Now I don’t know about you but I always feel like Animal Kingdom is hotter than any other park. It really doesn’t make much sense to me either since it also has the most shade. I just find it really weird.

The walk over to Pandora is a nice one along a lot of nice scenery. I really like how you transition from one area to another. Pandora is suppose to feel like a different planet and it really does. Disney did a great job on that.

Now the wait time for Flight of Passage was 30 minutes and my daughter really wanted to go on it. No one else wanted to do it but her and I did. So we went on FOP while the rest of the group checked out Pandora.

Flight of Passage is still one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World. This ride is amazing and I was glad that they had the 4D effects back (water spray, ect). It really makes you feel like you are riding on the back of a Banshee.

Once we were done on our tour of Pandora on the back of a banshee we meet up with everyone else. From here we went on Na’vi River Journey. Now apparently my mother has never been on it. I don’t know how that is possible since she only does the nice, easy rides.

Well, she loved it. I mean why wouldn’t you. It is a nice boat ride through the forest of Pandora. It may be an easy ride with no thrills but the immersion is incredible. You really feel like you are on another world.

Now it was time to make a decision. Do we head back to Magic Kingdom or do we go to EPCOT and hit up Food and Wine. I wanted to do Food and Wine since there were so many amazing foods I wanted to try. Plus the wait times were much lower at EPCOT than they were at Magic Kingdom.

For example, it’s a small world had a 45 minute posted wait time. Peter Pan and Haunted Mansion had hour long wait times. While at EPCOT soarin’ only had a 10 minute wait time and test track had 30 minutes. So we went over to EPCOT. Plus they also had fireworks so my brother would be happy.

We drove over to EPCOT and got parking pretty close to the front of the park. That is one of the great things about going a little bit later in the afternoon. You are not parking so far back since a lot of people already left to go to other parks.

Once in EPCOT our first ride had to be Spaceship Earth. It is my daughter’s favorite ride and sooner or later they will be closing it to give it an update. It was suppose to happen May of 2020 but has been pushed back.

When we were walking towards the ride the sky was getting very dark. I knew it wouldn’t be long before it opened up and started to pour on us. Well, once we got off the ride and sent our post cards from the future it was raining cats and dogs out side.

That rain was coming down so hard and fast it was incredible. However, everyone got their ponchos on and we trekked forward and headed over to Finding Nemo. So we helped find nemo and checked out all the other fish around too.

Next stop was Soarin’ which was a walk on. Only bad thing was we got the left side and not the middle. We had row one so we didn’t have feet hanging in front of us. But we had the other issue. If you don’t know what I am talking about I am not going to say. It is one of those things you can’t unsee once you see it.

After all the rides the rain stopped but it was really, really humid. Now for the thing I’ve been looking forward to since I booked the trip. Eating all kinds of food from around the world. Our first stop was Canada for Filet and cheddar soup.

These are favorites with my daughter and I. My brother would have liked it too if he only tried it. Just either ask for it without the mushrooms or push them off to the side. He’s a really picky eater. Almost worse than a child. I know, I know, but it really is that bad with some things.

Next stop after Canada was England for my mom’s fish and chips. She just loves getting them from there and who can blame her. They are amazing and really tasty. The fish and chips here give the ones at Universal a run for there money. I am not sure which one I find better. They are both really good.

Our next stop was France but not for the food booth. We had to go inside to get our pastries. They have some of the most amazingly delicious pastries inside. We got a couple of different items to bring back with us. Hopefully, they hold up in the evening heat. The sun was getting lower in the sky and it was getting a little cooler out even though it was still very humid. I just hope they hold up.

We continued around the World Showcase looking for something for my brother to eat. He ended up getting food at the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. They have some good stuff there and he was happy. I was looking to try some more food booth food.

There was just so many amazing things to try that we couldn’t do it all tonight. Good thing we were coming back tomorrow. My mom wanted to try to drink and snack around the world so we will see if that happens. I really want to drink around the world too. Something I’ve been wanting to do for years. I can get a few in but never all.

Before the fireworks started we got a couple more things to try. My daughter loved the Mac and Cheese last year (see that blog here) so she wanted it again today. I found it to be nice and creamy. She find it to be a little spicy. It was still good either way.

We find a nice bench and sat and waited for the rest of the group to show up and for EPCOT Forever to start. The show is only going to September 2021. In October 2021, Harmonious will start. Not many people will get to witness EPCOT Forever so we had to watch it.

It was a pretty good show. My only issue with the fireworks at EPCOT is they are hard to see. Sure you can see them from almost anywhere around World Showcase. However, you don’t get a very good view. Hopefully, this improves as they finish all the upgrades to EPCOT.

The show was good though. Lot’s of fireworks going off which was the point of watching it. The songs too were good. They were not great but they were good. Plus since this was only a temporary show. It didn’t matter too much. I can’t wait to see what Harmonious will be like.

Once the fireworks ended we made the mad dash to the front of the park and to the car. Us and thousands of other people. Of course, I had to stop on the way out and get a couple pictures. I wasn’t able to get a photo of the EPCOT icon last year at night. I wanted to make sure I got it this year. Plus we wouldn’t be coming back tomorrow night so it was now or never.

We made it to the car and made the drive back to Fantasy World Resort. We didn’t have any problem leaving WDW but we did hit a little road work on the way back. Nothing too bad but did take us a couple extra minutes. Once we got back to the townhome it was time to get ready for bed. It as a long day at the theme parks.

Plus tomorrow I had to be up before 7 if I wanted to try and get a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance. Of course, I really wanted to. Now tomorrow we are planning on going to Hollywood Studios, hoping over to EPCOT for food and wine, than off to Magic Kingdom in the evening to catch the fireworks there.

It was going to be another very busy day. But a day I couldn’t wait for. The only question was. Would I get a boarding pass for Rise and if I did would it be early enough that we could go on it. Time will tell and I only had to wait less than 10 hours to find out.

Hope to see you all tomorrow. Tomorrow is a big day. Not only will we be visiting three parks again. Tomorrow marks day 14 of our Pandemic Florida Trip. Two weeks my daughter and I have been away from home. That’s a really long time and we are not done yet. How long will this trip end up lasting? I wasn’t even sure at this point. Well see you guys tomorrow!
