A lot of us like to think that we’re pretty healthy because we try to eat right and do some exercise, but many of us are sabotaging ourselves, often without even realizing that is what we’re doing. If you have one of the following Unhealthy Habits, you could be sabotaging yourself too, and only by breaking them can you boost your wellness levels and truly get healthy… Pixabay – CCO Licence Not drinking enough water One of the most common bad health habits is the habit of drinking too little water. So many of us go for long periods without drinking and it leaves us feeling dehydrated, tired, and foggy. Not only that, but it makes skin duller and less plump. Luckily, breaking this bad habit is as easy as always carrying a bottle of eater with you and taking a swig now and again. If you’re likely to forget, set an alarm to remind you at regular intervals or download a liquid tracking app so you can be sure to get enough. Avoiding the doctor Eternally pushing back that important physical exam, ignoring that sharp pain and hoping it will go away, making excuses not to arrange that hearing loss test – sound familiar? If you’re one of the millions of people who aren’t proactive about making and keeping appointments with healthcare professionals, perhaps because you’re anxious or you feel like you don’t have time, you need to change now. Seeing healthcare professionals as soon as possible is so important if you want to catch illnesses before they come worse and maintain the highest possible levels of health so start dealing with your issues and scheduling those important appointments. Pixabay – CCO Licence Spending too much time on the couch I get it – the couch is comfy, warm, and inviting. It’s also the perfect spot from which to binge Drag Race, but it’s also the worst possible spot to spend your time if you’re truly concerned about your health and wellness. Why? Because the human body was made to move. The more you move, the healthier you will be. You’ll lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, depression, and a whole host of other health problems if you get up off the couch and do some exercise. Let the couch be your reward, not your default mode. Staying up late Not getting enough sleep doesn’t just leave you feeling sluggish the next day; it can also increase your chances of becoming obese, getting depressed, having a stroke, and much more besides. Aim for 7-9 hours each night and do whatever it takes to make that a reality. Not checking food labels Ideally, we’d all be eating healthy whole foods, no packaging necessary, but that isn’t always realistic. What is realistic, however, is checking the nutritional content on every package before you eat it. Why? Because even goods that seem healthy like fat-free yogurt and pre-packaged salads can be full of sugar, salt, and more calories than you’d weber imagine. Always check what you’re eating! Break these unhealthy habits and you’ll soon start to feel better.
