“There is no such thing as beast mode, there are just beasts”- Tim Grover
Saying that ‘I am going to Win’, is something that is so easy to say but very hard to do. I am fairly certain that we have all uttered those words before, not necessarily in sports but in also many other areas of our lives. No one has a natural desire to lose, but as you have probably found out ‘winning’ is something that requires a lot from you, a lot more than we bargained for.
For a selected few though, Winning has become a habit.
Not only do they achieve what they set out to do, they do it consistently. Their will and desire to win is so strong that it is what wakes them up every morning and it makes them give it their all when working for what is important to them.
These are usually the ones we attribute the terms such as ‘talented’ or ‘gifted’.
But, as opposed to that popular belief everyone is capable of winning and not only a few selected individuals are given the privilege to do it.
It is very easy to find reasons why other individuals are capable of winning and we are not. Whenever we see a true winner we get caught up in words like talent, training and circumstances as the many reasons why we are not fit for winning.
“He has a build that gives him an advantage over me” “They have the state-of-the-art training facilities” or “They have a world class CEO” and so on and so on. Such reasons are all too common and sometimes we even use them unconsciously.
In reality, there is something much more basic to winning — something that accounts for consistent success. The key to becoming someone who makes winning a normal course of action is to adopt the mentality of a winner — a mentality that people who achieve greatness maintain consistently.
Tim Grover, a world renowned trainer, once said:
“The body has limitations but the mind does not…we focus so much on what goes on from the neck down, that we forget that it all starts from here (the mind).”
If you want to be a winner you need to be mentally prepared for that, you need to have a mentality that will allow you to win.
This mentality is commonly referred to as ‘The winning Mentality’.
How would you define the winning mentality?
I personally define it as ‘the mentality that lets you dig deep and do whatever it takes in terms of putting in effort, perseverance, taking action and inspiring others around you in order to overcome any adversity that may come your way and win in the end. It is being willing to do consistently what everyone else is afraid of doing in order to gain a competitive advantage and master your craft in order for you to become a winner’.
Such a mentality is something that has to come from within, and not something someone can force you to have. You can tell someone as much as you’d want to that they should be a winner but if they don’t want to, they won’t even try.
The winning mentality is something you can use in many aspects of your life. Be it in your professional career or in your relationships including everything else in between. It is also a mentality that you can develop.
So, how would you know if you have the winning mentality? Let’s take a look at four traits that individuals with the winning mentality show and see how you can compare with them.
They relentlessly pursue improvement
Winners know they won’t get where they want to be by staying in the same place, so they constantly seek to improve. For them to win, they know that on each single day they have to become better than they were yesterday.
It is mainly not even about the competition, it is about being the best they can be. And they know that the only thing that can limit how far they can go is their mind.
Winners relentlessly break barriers that stop them from improving. They do what makes them uncomfortable and grow beyond their comfort zone.
They know that that is the only way to become better and win.
They always find a way of turning adversity into fuel needed to win
Adversity affects each one of us, but instead of feeling sorry for themselves, instead of putting the blame on others or instead of feeling guilty and giving up, winners know that the only one who can turn them into winners and change their circumstances is themselves.
They don’t swim in the pool of self-pity for long, they pick themselves up when they fail and continue their journey. They choose not to shift the blame onto others and accept the responsibility and carry it on their shoulders, and this is what gives them control over their fate. This is what makes them do better each time.
Adversity, with a change of opinion can be turned into great fuel that will catapult them to your wins.
Winners know this by instinct.
They know that there is no such thing as luck
Luck is just preparation meeting opportunity.
If you believe in luck then you believe that everything good or bad you will get in life at is all up to chance. True winners leave nothing up to chance.
We all get an opportunity at one point in our lives but if we are not prepared we are bound to waste it. Some are well prepared and win when they have those opportunities.
True winners take it a step further, they create their own opportunities through sheer force of will and effort and they make sure that they make the most of them.
The ability to make opportunities where they seem to be none, is a winners quality.
It is near impossible for them to give up
After a successful launch of the space rocket, when asked why he did not give up after failing the launch three times consecutively before, Elon Musk the CEO of Space X replied:
“I never give up. I will have to be dead or completely incapacitated.”
When you give up then that is it, you will never win. Elon Musk understands that and so does every winner out there.
If you want to consistently win you have to master the art of failing successfully.
Winning is only done after multiple attempts that end up in failure and every winner knows this. They know what is waiting for them at the end of all those failures, and that is their ultimate prize, success.
Great winners never give up, even when the odds are against them.
Each one of us is born with potential and we all have something that enables us to become a winner in life.
We just need to tap into our inner potential and bring out the winning mentality. It won’t be easy, but being a winner is not supposed to be easy that is why they are a very few true winners living among us.
But it is up to you if you wish to join them or not. Make a decision to make things happen, then go out and do it.
