5: Bruce Lee — 1940-1973

Considered by many to be the greatest martial artist of all time, Bruce Lee passed away at the all-too-young age of just 32. The official cause of Lee’s death is listed as a brain edema caused by a bad mix of prescription medications on July 20, 1973. (Although many speculate he was murdered by rival martial artists.) Even though he died 45 years ago, fans of the Kung Fu master still visit Seattle’s Lakeview Cemetery year-round to pay tribute. Die-hard Bruce Lee fans from outside the United States frequently visit his final resting place as well. Several fans from as far away as Mongolia (some 3,700 miles) visited Lee’s grave on the 53rd anniversary of his death.

4: Frank Sinatra — 1915-1988

Another highly visited famous grave is the final resting place of legendary crooner, Frank Sinatra. Born Francis Albert Sinatra, Frank is regarded by many as the most popular singer of the 20th century. “Ol Blue Eyes,” as he was called back in the day, was originally from Hoboken, New Jersey but moved west and became one of Hollywood’s biggest names in the 1930s-1950s. Sinatra passed away at the age of 88 in Palm Springs, California and was buried there at Desert Memorial Park with a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey and a pack of Camel cigarettes. “The Best Is Yet To Come,” a line from one of his most popular songs, is etched on his tombstone.

3: Marilyn Monroe — 1926-1962

Marilyn Monroe rose from a life of foster homes and orphanages as a child to becoming one of the most recognized actresses and sex symbols in the world as a young adult. Her tragic death at the age of just 36-years-old in 1962 sent shockwaves and disbelief across America and the world. Marilyn is buried in a mausoleum in the Corridor of Memories in Westwood Memorial Park, Los Angeles, California. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner reserved the crypt next to Marilyn decades ago and was laid to rest there himself in 2017. A crypt above Marilyn was recently put up for auction and hit a price of $4.6 million, but the seller declined the bid. Today, tens of thousands of visitors flock to Marilyn’s grave each year to take photos, leave flowers, coins, lipstick kisses and other tributes at her burial site.

3: Elvis Presley — 1935-1977

The King of Rock-‘n’-Roll, Elvis Presley, died of a prescription drug overdose at his Graceland home in Memphis, Tennessee on August 16, 1977. Elvis was only 42-years-old at the time of his death. Presley was originally buried in a mausoleum at Forest Hills Cemetery in Memphis, but was later moved to a more secure cemetery at Graceland after thieves unsuccessfully attempted to steal his body. Tens of thousands of fans attended Elvis Presley’s funeral in 1977 and more than 600,000 each year still visit his grave at Graceland to pay their respects. These visitors come from all over the world, contributing nearly $150 to the Memphis economy. With these stats, Elvis is easily one of the top most visited famous graves in America.

1: Michael Jackson — 1958-2009

Another king here on our list of five of the most visited famous graves in the United States is non other than The King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Michael is laid to rest in a private section of the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. The cemetery, known as the “Country Club for the Dead,” is the final resting place of many Hollywood celebrities and attracts well more than a million visitors from around the globe each year. It is said that hundreds of Michael’s fans visit the private Holly Terrace section of Forest Lawn every day to leave flowers, photos, cards and other tributes at the entrance to his mausoleum. Michael truly loved his fans and his fans loved him back and continue to show that love long after his passing.
