Growing up, I received a lot of questions of whether I believe in Love at first sight. Well, firstly, I'll be telling you what my definition of love is. Love is when one is willing to sacrifice for the significant other. Love is when you fall for a person inside out, accepting the significant other's flaws regardless of anything.
Me, personally, I don't believe in love at first sight because if you fall for a person at the first sight, you're simply falling for their looks and not for their hearts or personalities. It is true that appearance matters, we don't walk with x-rays but imagine in 50 years time, they will not be as beautiful as they are now. Wrinkles will form, hair will turn grey and skin will not be as tight as it is now. What will you do then? Leave?
Falling for a person, at first sight, is indeed very beautiful but what if what you see was a lie? What if you found out that their personalities weren't like how you expected it to be? We're living in a world where people don't show their true selves anymore and the only way to really know a person is by knowing them in and out.
I grow up seeing lots of love cases, be it from my family or my friends. Most of my friends who fell in love at first sight, their relationships don't last long. I've got a friend who fell in love with his girlfriend at first sight. It did last long but it was a torture for both of them. Love is supposed to make you feel beautiful and not tortured. So, I conclude that falling in love, at first sight, will most likely to not last long.
I'm not implying that all of this type of relationship will not last long. It will work if you try to accept your significant other's flaws. It doesn't only apply to this type of relationship but it applies to all kinds of relationships. However, in this era, it is easier said than done. People think highly of their ideal type of partners and often lost their thoughts on how their ideal partners should be.
In order to learn how to accept their flaws, first, you have to love yourself and accept your own flaws. One of the ways is to be confident and be proud of who you are. Never walk out with a feeling like your soul is not in your body. To be honest, I used to be like that. I've never shown my true self to anybody merely because I fear of rejection but not anymore. No matter what, I'll keep on showing my true self to people because I want them to accept my flaws like how I accept mine, and to love me like how I love myself.
