The Mindful Soul Center (formerly Conscious Life Space)

In 1979, MC Yogi was born but at the time he was known only as Nicholas Giacomini. His first studio album was released in 2008, entitled Elephant Power. Since then his visibility has been increasing through the years and his musical style evolving. He takes hip-hop and transforms it with the mythology of Hindu gods, mantras, and yoga oriented topics. Mantras themselves are often uplifting and used for healing and other purposes. His Music is joyful.

He tells the story of how he came to combine the uplifting and positive stories with hip-hop in an interview on NPR. It was at his wedding celebration at the yoga studio he founded with his wife Amanda in Northern California when he had the moment that would trigger a connection that would urge him onto this path.

The Connection

Briefly, the story goes something like this:
At the celebration the song by the Beastie Boys, Brass Monkey was playing and it so happened that there was a statue of Hanuman at the studio. His friend Ross Evans was dancing and pointing to the brass statue of Hanuman. That was when he made the connection.

Final Notes

A lot of people judge westerners interpretations of yoga and the appropriation of Indian culture. It doesn’t make it right, wrong, good, bad, black or white. Our lives and gifts to the universe are nuanced. Why would anyone diminish someone from knowing and expressing ancient wisdom? A true yogi though would reserve their judgment and transform and release it knowing that we are all on our own path. For me, his music is joyful, playful and contemporary.

You can also find him on various music platforms and if you like his music you might want to purchase a song or an album and support his work that brings beauty and art together through music.
